BRIEF NOTES ON
Tha Champagne Music of
LAWRENCE WELK
This is the first Northwest
tour for Lawrence Welk.
His only stops in Oregon
are Klamath Falls and
Portland.
He hot been a favorite
with Midwest dancers - for
many years. His band re
places Guy Lombardo's at
the Roosevelt hotel in New
York each summer during
Guy's vacation.
His music satisfies every
type of dancer from the
young to the old. He is fa
mous for his polkas and
schottisches.
He is one of the few lead
ers in tha country to fea
tura both an electric organ
and a celeste.
Tha Oct. 8, 1949, issue of
the "Billboard" (national
amusement mogoiine) in
reviewing Welk's band at
tha Hollywood Polladium,
says in part: "His musics
juit as plain and down tT
eorth as good beer, and is
one of the best musical
brews of its kind at that.
Patrons go for Welk in a
big way, filling tha floor
to danca rather than look.
Crowd is enthusiastic about
tha Welk brand of music
and shows its appreciation
with much applause after
aach number."

Announcing.
A Reduction in Gas Bates
It is our very great pleasure to inform the people of Klamath Falls
that their gas rates are going to be reduced, commencing with
November bills.
By this rate reduction we are passing on to our customers the
benefit of savings in our fuel cost which have been accomplished
within the last few weeks.
Rate reductions scheduled for Klamath Falls will amount to 2.1 a
therm. This will constitute a reduction of about 10 percent in the
average bill and will cancel out one-third of the increase in gas
rates which has been in effect since mid-1948.
Reductions scheduled for all of our Oregon Utility Gas Properties
will save consumers an estimated $113,600 a year, of which amount
$25,000 will be saved by the people of Klamath Falls.
In such substantial manner a cardinal principle of our operating
policy is seen at work the policy of giving our customers the
benefit of lower production costs in the form of lower gas rates.
