A 15-year-old farm girl who beat
her father to death with a hammer
aa placed on parole yeatcrday by
Dutrlct Judge . V. Boughton.

of the girl. Charlotte Burns, to a
California family. The name of the
family waa not given. The court aald

Offlcera testified at a preliminary
hearing that Charlotte told them
she had struck her father with a
hammer while he was lying on a
couch In their Isolated farm home.
She was charged with manslaughter.

Hhe said she had been to town only

Judge Boughton paroled the girl
after receiving the advice of a board
of three psychiatrists.
The board said sha had lived
life of fear.
Prosecutor R. E. MrPsrland said
there waa "Insurmountable evi
dence" that Charles Burns, (5, had
been a cruel father.
He said Burns had beaten Pat.
CharMte's younger brother, with
an aa handle until the boys body
was black and blue.
A tew years before, the prosecutor
said, Charlotte had received a brok

her father.
Judge Boughtin ordered the girl
brought before him again In the
fall of IBM when he will make a

the methods of his ancestors to re
gain his estates, but within 19 hours
learned he was two centuries be
hind the times.
When tha Madnyabharat princely
union waa formed In Central India,
tha Thakur waa one of those who
had to surrender their 300-year-old
states and estates tn return for com
pensation. He did It with a vigorous
demur and went underground to
evade orders of srreat.
When ha reappeared, It waa with
a band of 300 fighting men armed
with bows and arrows and soma
home-made guns. He "stormed" hu
ancestral fortress and occupied It.
But he found the government much
too quick for him. Before nightfall
his "forces" had "surrendered" and
tha Thakur had fled. Tha warrant
for his arrest waa renewed on fresh
charges, but ha still la at Urge.
