Soybean Drop Weakens Market
CHICAQO, Oct IS WV-Soybeans dropped several nU on the
board of trade today, weakening the rest of the mark. Losses In other
pita were limited mostly to tractions.
Wheat was under mild pressure all day. The market Ignored senate
passage of the Anderson farm bill and the agriculture department's
October t crop forecast.
Wheat closed S-S lower, December 2 11S-V corn was unchanged
to lower. December SU7S-H. oete were W-H higher. December 68,
rye was Ht-a lower, December fl.47-t. soybeans were 3V,4,
lower, November S230H-H. and lard was ornu lower to t cents a

Heavy Trading
Raises Stocks
NEW YORK. Oct. IS In
one of the heaviest trading days of
the year, the stock market moved
ahead today for gains running to
more then a point.
The volume ot business was esti
mated at around 1.900,000 shares
for the entire session.
. The buying surge started with
the opening bell. Within a short
tune, however, the pace slackened
but continued at a high level.
Buying enthusiasm diminished
after John L. Lewis proposed add
ing 30 to 35 cents to each ton of
coal as his price for settling the
coal strike.
The market la currently at the
highest average level of the year.
On the higher side were Shell
Oil, Uon Oil. Ooodrich. Hilton
Hotels, American Can. Homestake
Mining. Anaconda Copper, and
Johns Manville.
Lower were Toungstown Sheet &
Tube, Sears Roebuck. Boeing, Dow
' Chemical, American Woolen, TJ. S.
Oypsum. American Airlines and
Santa Fe.
