Every chimney ahould be exam

pair. Hole In the mortar or mason

Tlmbera or frame construction
must be protected from the heat of
the flue. Good connlructlon requires

the chimney and Inflammable ma-

Cood ( himnry
A good chimney haa a flue lin
ing to give added protection againat
heat and fire. Not too many years
ago the flue lining waa considered
nonessential. Therefore, many fluea
In use today do not have tnia added
protection. An unllned flue con
alructed with a one-brick wall thlrk
neaa has, at the Joints, only mortar
between the flue and Inflammable
materials. If the mortar loosens
and cracka. a fire hazard exlsu.
Every chimney ahould be a u b
Jected to a amoke test at the time
of construction and every few years
t her ea Iter to locate any leaks. The
straw, wood, or tar paper fir at

block the outlet at th top with a
wet blanket. Hmok that escapee

scraped from the Joint with a nar
row pointed tool, and the mortar
mix to repair the Joint la 1 part
Portland cement, 1 part hydrated
lime, and 6 parla of aand.
Just prior to the smoke test ex
cess soot should be removed from
th chimney. Boot may be removed
in several ways. A simple method
la to dlalodge the soot by mean of
a weighted brush or bundle of rags
lowered and raised from th top.
The soot can then be removed at
thj baa of the flue.
A small amount of time each year
devoted to cleaning. Inspecting and
repairing the chimney will give
your family added security a well

Hrr Luxembourg rrsldrnce la a

chateau lines with a garden In back.
A reception for more than 300 would
probably bulge the walls, and the
dining room, as presently furnished,
would not scst more than 30 for
lunch or dinner.
Entertainment Flan
Mra. Meata already haa decided
her future entertaining will take
the form of lunch and dinner par
lira, with perhapa one or two large
scale receptions.
When Mrs. Mesta finishes her
shopping, there will be plenty of
Scotch, rye and bourbon, plua
French and local winea. In the cellar.
Since she never touches whisky and
only rarely sips wine, there already
la an ample atock of her favorite
soft drink on hand. She brought It
along with hrr Packard.
