Waterway Bill Includes
Big Northwest Projects
Ever So Grown Up
WASHINGTON, Oct I WV-Houae
and kdiU conferee finally have
agreed on a multi-million dollar
waterway appropriation bill lor the
fiscal year that organ last July 1.
The bill, carrying a total ap
propriation ol 664,n.l0 (or civil
functions of the army. Includes
1S34 .820.090 for flood control and
river and harbor projects In many
of the 48 states.
Big Item
One of the big Items Is 61 .000.000
for flood control on the lower Mls
sisippl river and its tributaries: oth
ers are 134.000 .000 for the McNary
lock and dam on the Columbia river

checking In last night for short
stays.

cam two Beatty Indians. Philip
Hurtado, 37, and Robert Stanley, 21.
Hurtado was fined SIMM or given
60 days In jail on charge of Illegal
possession of liquor. Stanley was hit
with $29j0 or 35 days on a drunk
count. Both were arrested by state
police.
Alvin M. Jackson, Chiloquin Indi
an, is resting under $25 bail on a
drunk count. The 38-yearold labor
er was arrested at Barclay Springs
by state officers.
A 23-year-old Merrill waitress,
Candace Elizabeth Johnson, was
handed a 14-day Jail sentence in the
Merrill court for being drunk in a
public place.
Truck Overturns,
No Injuries
Mrs. W. P. Myers, 73. operator
of Lakeshore nursery, and her em
ploye. Al Davidson. 35. escaped In
Jury early Tuesday afternoon when
their Klamath bound pickup struck
a slick spot In the rain covered Wil
lamette pass 16 miles this side of
Oakridge and overturned.
Mrs. Myers said they were re
turning home at about 1:30 pjn.
when the pickup skidded In the mid
dle of the highway, overturned
twice and went off the road and
hit a tree. Neither was seriously
hurt but received medical care In
Oakridge and then continued on to
Klamath Falls by bus.
The two had been In Eugene de
Jivering a load of Oregon Orape
scrubs to the state highway depart
ment there. The pickup was dam
aged and left in Oakridge.
