strike might affect the nation'! de

Fire Blamed
On Hunters
First forest fire attributed to a
eampfira left by careless hunters
was controlled without much dam
age early this morning by Klam
ath Forest Protective association
fire fighters.
The blaze, a small one. was lo
cated on the west side of Hay
maker mountain. Just south of
Chase mountain.
A second fire waa reported by
KFPA lookouts later this morning
on the top of Little Aspen moun
tain, but by noon, the crew had
not reported in.
Forestry officials urged extreme
caution on the part of hunters
atnee the woods are still in dry
and dangerous condition.
Sharps, Muellers
Attend Funeral
Dr. and Mrs. Paul W. Sharp and
Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Mueller trav
eled to Fort Jones. Calif, today to
attend the funeral of Dr. Sharp's
uncle, John Costello. 70. of Fort
Jones, who died of a heart attack
while on a hunting trip Wednesday
afternoon.
Mr. Costello was a life-long rest
dent of Scott valley, and visited
here frequently. His wife preceded
him in death only two months ago.

A Stockton. Calif., spud truckw
narrowly escaped death shortly be
fore noon today at the Hosley rail
road crossing four miles north of
Merrill, when hu loaded truck and
an AJturaa bound Southern Pacific
freiaht collided on the crossing.
The impact demolished the truck,
operated by Harvey Pugs. W-year-old
employe of the La-polsma Pro
duce company of Stockton. Bui
Puga' escaped with only severe
bruises and possible nb fracture.
He la in Klamath Valley hospital.

State police investigated and said
that Puga told them he had stop
ped hi truck at the crossing and
then proceeded to cross when the
engine and machine crashed. Be
fore Engineer E. S. Shelley could
bring the train to a stop, 19 cars
some 45 feet long, had passed the
collision spot.
A telephone pole 45 feet from
the crossing, waa ripped out, of
fleers said.
Some damsge was done to the
engine but contact could not be
made with 8P officials who were
still at the scene early this after'
noon. The accident occurred at
11:15 a. m.
