The con- Qualifications For Air Cadet Different Now The Air Force has announced two major changes In eligibility require ments for Its cadet pilot and navi gator training programs regarding educational and marital status, M art. Clarence E. Moss, ot the lo cal army and air force recruiting service said today. TIm new regulations, effective October 1, provide that applicants for the aviation cadet programs must have a minimum of two years of college education to be accepted, including 60 semester-hours or M quarter hours at an accredited col lege Institution. The air lore will no longer accept the equivalent of two years of college education. In addition, married applicant will no longer be accepted for avi ation cadet training. Change Explained M'BgU Moss said the new aca demic requirement is designed to raise the level of cadets participat ing In the progTam In line with the at- force policy of building Its fu ture officer corps on college and university trained men. The decision to eliminate married applicants steins primarily from the difficulties and hardships that are encountered by married cadets who must support families on cadet pay. Individuals already accepted for aviation ca-"-t training ana await ing assignment to a class will not be affected by this change MSgt. Moss said, but the more stringent eligibility requirements will proba bly mean a reduction In the back log of qualified applicants In the fu ture and earlier assignment to classes. Age requirement for the aviation cadet programs remain the same, 90 to 364 years of age. Classes for cadet pilots begin every sue weeks, with commissions as second lieuten ant given to success! ul cadets on completion of 12 months' training. Next Class The next cadet navigator class, also of 13 months duration, will be gin November. M Sex Moss also announced that effective Jan. 1, 1(60, air force offi cer candidate school classes will be established on a quarterly, rather than a semi-annual basis. Classes will start Jan. 1, April 1. July 1, and Oct. I. Mamed men and those with educational equivalents are till acceptable for air force OCS. Young men Interested In the ca det pilot, air navigation and air force officer candidate) school pro grams may obtain detail at the Federal building. More Fealtry, Feck At the same time the Increasing production of poultry and pork will tend to bring prices down all along the line In the meat division. Effects of devaluation of the British pound sterling and other foreign currencies won't have much impact on food prices at retail. The first sign ot the Thanksgiving holiday Mason appeared this week cranberries are back. The housewife isn't much in the mood for them, dealers report, and the demand is light. Prices haven't fallen any as a result, and dealers don't think they will. First relate. The first Maine and Canadian potatoes also come to the markets this week. Prices are about un changed. Western potatoes are a little higher. The outlook for Florida citrus fruit Is not too good from the stand point of the housewife. Something like one-third ot the grapefruit crop was lost in the recent hurri cane. Shortly alter October I ship pers expect a moderate supply to be available, and prices will be what they call "fairly high." Oranges are In a little better sup ply position, having lost around s per cent in the hurricane. While there will be more orange available for the market, makers of Juice concentrates are planning to take a larger share than ever before. That means fewer whole oranges will get on the grocery and fruit stand shelves. "Mode.-ately higher prices'" are anticipated. HOSPITAL STAYS PORTLAND.
