Two union officers, O. W. Lange
and O. G. McLennan, have been
here since Monday, staying at the
Arcade hotel. They reported them
selves still ready to meet with rail
road officials in an attempt to aet-
' tie the trouble.
Lange la vice president of the
Order of Railway Conductors and
McLennan Is general chairman of a
committee ot adjustment for the
organization. They said today that
even though the OCcfcE strike la by
Just IS employes, the same atten
tion was being given It as "we
would give one on the Southern Pa
cific with two thousand conduc
tors." OCcfcE has been operating two
locomotives, one used primarily for
switching and the other making the
run out to Bly. The locomotives,
owned by ON, are Idled in the GN
roundhouse.

Clemens, msnsging editor of three
Northwest farm msgazlnes, retired
today.
Clemens had been editor of the
Washington Parmer, Idaho Parmer
and Oregon Parmer since 193$.
Succeeding him as managing
editor will be Cecil Hagen, former
assistant university editor at the
University of Idaho. Hagen has
been associate editor for several
years.

FAMILY LEFT HOMELESS Flames yesterday afternoon ate through the upper story and
roof of a residence ot 238 Martin, leaving Mr. and Mrs. Dave Alexander and their five
children without shelter. The two-story frame house is owned by Walter Hannon and the
fire was believed to have storted from wiring in on upstairs apartment tenanted by W. K.
Connell. The downstairs part of the house was damaged by fire. Catherine Geis, Red
Cross director, is attempting to locate a three-bedroom house for the Alexanders who were
cared for by neighbors last night.

strike that has tied up north coast
Greyhound bus line operations be
tween Vancouver, B.C., and Port
land, for 11 weeks is going to con
tinue. Ray Jensen, president of the mo
tor coach, employes union, division

had rejected the company's latest
oiler, made after a series of day-
long meetings with Governor Lang-
lie during the last fortnight.
The union went on strike June 18.
