much of the usual last minute con
fusion. A small amount of work
remains to be done on one of the
new entrances to the grounds from

new "Kiddirland". juvenile amuse
ment area, that should be extreme
ly popular for youngsters and tired
parents.
Advance mail ticket sales to all
fair atlracuoua are reported to be
the heaviest in fair history, ac
cording to Joe SimrraL ticket man
ager. Mail requests have been re
ceived from all sections of the
stale.
Some difficulty has arisen in the
allocation of stall and pen space to
the record number of livestock en
tries In the various open classes.
However, Ben Newell. Salem, su
perintendent of the livestock show,
haa stated that all show strings will
b e accomodated when Judging
starts Labor Day morning.
Entries in the combined textile
and culinary sbow are about aver
age but departmental heads expect
the list to swell before the entry
deadline of September 4. Mra.

play space is gone with more gar
den clubs than ever before planning
to exhibit.

eral weeks. Many new appliance
and farm dealers will display for

The younger gentry is slated for
a big thrill with a glimpse at the
new toy railroad route and station.
The route haa been made more
life-like, a new tunnel and station
erected, and the tracks completely
rearranged.

gate are the same as before the
war, fifty cents mcludmg tax. Chil
dren 13 and under will be admitted
free. There will be four free mid
way shows each day on the grounds
featuring top circus and stage
talent.

Plenty of cranberries, to go with a
near-record turkey crop, were pre
dicted yestrrday by the department
of agriculture.
Its crop reporting board said the
cranberry harvest will total S03000
barrels. 31 per rent above the . J.iO
barrel average for the past 10 years,
last year's record crop totaled 047.
TOO bairels.
Only New Jersey of the five major
cranberry producUig states surveyed
expects less than average crop. New
Jersey's prospects are for a 56,000
barrel harvest, the department said,
compared with 16.800-barrel average
and 89,000 last year.
Predictions for the other slates
Include:

under 14. 40 per cent above aver
age: Oregon 15.500. 17 per cent
above 148. 44 per cent above average.
