Kolar and family. He is con
nected with the Columbian
Optical company as a dis
pensing optician and was
transferred here from the
Portland office. He and his
wife and child ore at home at
718 Jefferson street. Prior to
his present connection, Mr.
Kolor was with optical firms
in San Bernardino and River
side, Calif. He has had exten
sive experience in the fitting
of artificial eyes.

mately 500 persons were killed or
Injured in the explosion of an am
munition ship in the hsrbor of
Takso. southeastern Formosa, the
offlcisl Chinese central news agency
said todsy.
The agency said ammunition was
being uploaded from the Chinese
steamer Chunglt. There wss a huge
explosion, which waa followed quick
ly by others.
The whole port city waa ahakea
by the blast which broke nearly
every window In Takao and
canard morn other damage, the
agency reported.
Terror spread through the city.
Shortly after the first blast ripped
through the ship the city wss
darkened by the smoke arising from
the waterfront.
The wharf are, was a seen of
destruction, the agency said.

California had several bad fires,

declared an emergency condition
when a new fir broke out An

yon, near Fallbrook. Calif, driving
many settlers out of their homes.
Three small ranches were burned
and a larg Bomber of livestock
perished.
In Idsho. gains were msde against
a 7500-acr fir tn prectpltious
Hell's canyon, but other Idaho fires
were making trouble. Firea in Yel
lowstone park wer checked.
Curtis Knudsen, one of the crew
fighting the Hell s canyon fire, died
of lnjunes. and three others wer
hospitalized.
