Klamath kids win get a chance
to demonstrate their originality.
Initiative, and Ingenuity next Friday
morning when they participate In
the "unlimited pet show" sponsored
by Klamath retail merchants.
Pets from canaries to elephants
can be entered.
Each and every participant of the
affair, which will start at the court
house at 11 a. m. will receive a
"lucky horseshoe' key chain, which
In turn will permit the bearer to
obtain a ticket the next day for the
JHI-Ho Fun show at the Pelican
theater.
Peta wfll be Judged according to:
1. Best dressed pet.
1. Smallest pet.
1. Largest pet.
4. Most unusual pet
ft. Most comical pet.
The prizes will be offered by local
merchants.
The parade Is slated to begin at
the courthouse Friday morning, and
will move down Main street, ter
minating at the TMCA grounds at

at 10:30 so that the affair can get
off at 11 o'clock.

miles per hour when he came upon
the young boy In the dark.
The youngster, according to po
lice reports, was riding on the shoul
der on the wrong side of the road
when he was struck by the car.
The boy Is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
K. C. Sari of 2439 Homedale road.

Klamath county gets a government
loan of $150,000 to Improve four
schools under a bill signed today by
President Truma-L
The Improvements win be made
t the Chiloquin and Bprague River
schools on the Klamath Indian res
ervation and at Bonanza and Bly,
Just outside the reservation. A
fourth of the student In the schools
axe Indians.
Heating, lighting and sewer sys
tems will be Improved at all four
schools. Shop work will be started
at Bonanza and Bly to try to keep
Indian student In high school.
Chiloquin will get a gymnasium and

The federal government will put
up about half the cost of the im
provements and get 1150,000 back

sentatives by Rep. Rankin of Mis

according to word received here
from Congressman Lowell Stockman
of Oregon.
The word came In answer to a
query by Chamber of Commerce
Manager Charlie Stark asking what
had become of the bill.
According to Stockman. It Is dif
ficult to determine the fate of the
bill as long aa It waits In the veter

party are Shorty Parker, Frank Sargent and a man named Gill. The S. P., incidentally,
extended its line north of Chiloquin to Kirk, but it wasn't until the middle 'twenties that
finished the link to Eugene that made the "Natron cutoff" the main line and put Klamath
Falls really on the railroad mop.
Dependents Of Vets Who
Died Within 3 Years Of
Discharge Get Benefits
Widows, children and dependent
parents of World War II veterans
who died within three years after
honorable discharge were remind
ed this week by the Oregon De
partment of Veterans' Affairs that
they may be eligible for social se
curity benefits earned as the result
of trie man's time in active service.
Title n of the social security act
provides that such veterans are
deemed to have died fully insured,
to have received monthly wages of
not less than 1160, and to have been
paid not less than $300 in wage
in each year in which they had 30
days or more of active service after
September 16. 140, under the act.
The veteran must have had M
days of continuous service, a part
of which must have been between

some deaths occuring among service
men discharged later. Also, they
said It Is possible some survivors
have not filed because they were
unaware of these benefits. Such
applications are atlU valid. UKy

made retroactive only three months
from time of application.

Art Workshop
On Field Trip
The Klamath Art Workshop at
Oregon Technical Institute haa been
?ut on field trips for the greatest
art of the month long summer
school. This Saturday the group Is
going bv bus to the Lava Beds na
tional monument for the day. A
ranger will accompany them and
point out the landmarks.
Other field trips have been made
to Keno, Olene. the Cleary canal
bridge. Cove Point, the Riverside
school lawn and the mill at Pelican.
The purpose of these field triis Is
to give the art students a varied
gioup of landscapes to paint, ror
the end of the session a trip to
either Mt. Shasta or Ashland has
been scheduled.
It Isn't all work for the students,
for social events have also been
planned. I-ast Wednesday an In
formal dance was given by the
Klamath Art association at the
Pine Grove studio for the students
and faculty.
