Malayans Ask
Check On
Animal Exports
8INOAPORK W The Malayan
Vegeturian society seeks to aave
tin land s wild animal life by con
trolling exports. The society said It
had been told that a large number
of monkeys exported irom Malaya
died on ships carrying them. Also,
the group said, the one-homed rhi
noceros is now practicallv extinct
because of hunting and exports.
The society adopted s resolution
asking the iSnm-pore and Malaya
Federation governments to Inquire
Into the import and exports of wild
animals and to consider desirability
of Imposing stricter control. If not
a total ban on the trade, because
of the mortality rale among export
ed animals.
Surprisingly, two wild animal ex- 1
porters who appeared without an
nouncement at the meeting cast
their votes In support of the reso- 1
lutlon. The exporters succeeded:
first, however. In having the word 1
"high" eliminated from before
"mortality rate" in the resolution.

"Certainly there la no evidence In

said.
-With the disappearance of this
unusually high rate of operations,
the profits reported by the ateel
