After Drop
CHICAGO. Aug. IS W Hogs
were quoted nominally steady today
following yesterday's sharp price
downturn. Sale were quoted In a
rang from (16.75 to S22-2S. Cattle
- and sheep also held ateady.
After moving So new highs for
the year earlier In the week, the
hog market went Into a sudden do
lapse yesterday. One of the severest
decline of the year washed out
early gain and left barrows and
gilts BO to 75 cent lower than last
week, sows were flown 33 to 75
cents.
Incretsed receipts, a slow whole
sale pork trade and expectations of
a considerable expansion of new
crop bogs within a short time com
bined to causa the late weakness.
Choice steer advanced around 50
cent during the week and the top
moved up to 428.75. Most good and
choice fed steers and yearlings sold
at (23 50 to 2. 00. Steers again
comprised the bulk of offeruv.s.
Steer and heifer beet rose about
11 00 In the wholesale trrde this
week.
All type of offerings weakened
throughout the week In the sheep
aeeUon. Spring lamb closed Si 00
to 12 DO lower. The decline came In
the faea of 35 per cent smaller re
ceipts at 13 major terminal. Hot
weather tn the East, reducing de
mand tor dressed lamb, waa con
sidered partly responsible tor the
jump.
