At trie time the Indiana were

to have about ai much chance of
displacing the front-running New
York Yankee Lupica had of
replacing Lou Boudreau a Tribe

the flagpole utter had gotten hlm

But what a difference the next
48 day made. The Tribe did an
about face and went on to win 31
of their next game, rushing past
five opponents into second place.
Today the Indians are In their
best spot since May 10. Following
last night's 1-0 victory over the

GARCIA HERO
The Tribe s latest hero is Rookie

Metkovich scored Fred Hancock and
Steve Souchock with the runs that
gave the Whit Sox their victory

the win in the Yankee locker. He
collected a triple and two single,
drove in two runs and cut a poten

the plate in the ninth.
The Philadelphia Athletics wrest
