Billy O'Brien Is improving with
medical treatment at the home of

Mrs. Bern Ice Merrill, a former

gery at Roseburg recently and Is
reported recuperating satisfactor
ily. Donna Dixon and Lots Wise left
Sunday for Olrl Scout camp at
Lake o' the Woods.

turned Tuesday to Weyerhaeuser
Camp 11, where they will work dur
ing the logging shutdown building
fence and burning brush. The two
boys spent the week-end here with
their parents.
Wyn Brewer, Charles Zumbrun
and John Anderson, all employed
by the Warm 8prtngs Lumber com
pany at Madras, were here at their
homes for the holiday shutdown of
logging there.
Mrs. Dick Jockh and her two
sons. Gordon and Robert, left Wed
nesday night by plane from Klam
ath Falls for their home In Peoria,
111., after spending three weeks vis
iting here with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert E. Oorden. who
accompanied them to the airport
Wednesday evening. Coming from
their home In Tillamook to spend
the Fourth and visit with Mrs.
Jocklsh and tons were her brother
and wife. Mr. and Mra, Robert R.
Oorden, Oorden being employed at
Tillamook by the Mountain States
Power company .
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Smith and
sons of Klamath Falls spent the
week-end here with his mother and
brother. Urs. Wesley Smith and
Leonard.
A large part of the local popula
tion went to Klamath Falls over
the Fourth to attend the Klamath
Basin Roundup, ir. fact, it would
takt a whole column to enumerate
those who were there, the town
being practically deserted during the
three days of the show. Local busi
ness establishments staying open
over the holiday report a fine busi
ness from the tourist travel and
visitors from nearby points, with
perfect weather prevailing over the

will be accompanied south on the
train trip by his brother. L. Orth

USBR Calls Bids
For Heating Unit
Bids have been railed for bv the
bureau of reclsmatton tor construc
tion of a steam heating plant at
bureau headquarters at the munici
pal airport.
Sealed bids will be received up to
1 p. m. August 3 and then publicly
opened. Further information may

New Voting
Precincts
To Be Formed
Three new voting precincts are
being formed In the populous south
east suburban area.
County Clerk Charlie Drljip said
work Is now under way in his office
transferring voter registrations Into
the new districts. The three pre
cincts will be known sm Cniiul. Shas
ta and East Homedale.
Canal precinct will be bounded by
Shasta way. the canal and Wash
bum way and la a portion of the old
West Shasta precinct. It Includes
the federal housing unit.
The new Shasta precinct Is taken
off the western end of East Shasta
and Is bounded bv Gary, Shasta
wav. Wlnrd and 8.4th.
Bast Homedale precinct will In
clude the eastern portion of the old
North Homedale precinct and two
blocks of the old Pine Grove pre
cinct and Is bounded by Wiard. Pat
terson, S. 6th and the railroad
tracks.
All three will be fairly high in
registration.
Klamath county, with these
changes, will have "8 voui areas.

Repairing of state roads dam

district Is near completion, and the
stale highway department will set

end of July. District Maintenance
Superintendent Tom Edwards said

Slate road work, under the su
pervision of Edwards, totals 440
miles, covering highway V9 north
to Crescent, west on tiie Willam
ette pasa to the Southern Pacific
overpass, east on the Klamath
Kalls-Lakevlcw highway to a point
10 miles this side of Lakeview, and
the Orrensprlngs to a short dis
tance this side of Weyerhaeuser.
Edwards said that the surface
breakage was not as great as a
year ago but the prime trouble
tins year was fixing of holes that
went deeper Into the roadbed.
Just tag ends of repair work
remain. Edwards said, and should
be finished by the end of July.
Crews thru will go to work on
routine ditch cleaning, brush-cutting,
painting of road signs and
other duties.

To Look Over
Hanford Plant
SPOKANE. July 14 (vThe com
mittees of the atomic energy com
mission will visit the Hanford Works
at Richland on a routine Inspection
Itlp Tuesday, Rep. Henry Jackson
iD-Wash.) said today.
They are the general, advisory
committee, headed by one of the ll
tlons top physicists, Dr. J. Robert
Oppruhelmer. and the mllltaiy
liaison committee, headed by Wil
liam Websler of Washington, D. C
Other members of the advisory
committee scheduled to make the
trip are Dr. James B. Conant. presi
dent of Harvard university; Hartley
Rowe of Boston, vloa president of
the United Krult company, ana
Oliver E. Buckley of New York,
president of the Bell Telephone
company.
An earlier group of visitors, sev
eral high-ranking officers of Uit
sixth army, arrived at Richland
from San Francisco yesterday, Their
visit also was described as a
"routine survey."
It was reported earlier the army
will take over the Job of policing
the government reservation, but of
ficials of the project have refused
to comment on the probable starl
ing date.
