WHEAT GAINS GROUND TODAY
CHICAGO. July II i A steady run of buying orders, largely
ba.cd on expectations of a bullish government crop forecast after the
market closed, caused a br advance In all commodity figure on tin
board of trade today. Traders said the market was featured by a lack
of selling presur.
Widest gain were scored In soybeans, which ran up more than 4
cents before meeting enough pressure to stem the upturn. All soybean
contracts made new seasonal highs, as did all rye. December rye pushed
above the 41.50 level.
Oalns In wheat ranged to around 3 cent! at times. The bread
cereal showed a tendency to bark down after reaching the highs
scored last week, which were In turn Uie tops for wheat autre last
January. Corn, oats and lard shared In the general advance.
Wheat closed IS-3 higher. July 4303-,: corn was lower to
IS higher. July 41 34'.-1.: oati were lower to higher. July

board motor. It took 41 hours and
30 minutes and was the first re

Six boats were to have started In
the rare, a feature of the Klamath
river carnival.
But only two boats started and

They recovered quickly and ate a
hearty meal.
River men say the Klamath Is
more deadly than the Colorado. It
has countless whirlpools and boiling
white waters studded with rocks.
When the men arrived here, their
boat was badly damaged and con
tained several holes In the sides.
Coau said he waa "glad to be alive
and would never go through any
thing like this again."
The river In many places haa sheer
cliffs on both sides. Many times
when they came to dangerous placea
portage waa Impossible, and they
had to ride through rapids.
Coats said rather than ride some
rapids, they tied ropes to Uie boat
and formed a "V." Each man took
one end of the rope, waded through
shallow water on the side of the
river and allowed the boat to swirl
ahead.
The racing wag only from day
break until sundown. At night, the
men slept on the banks of the river.
Practically the entire town of
Klamath about 2000 persons
turned out for the finish of the trip.
