Yester day, when Deputy Sheriff Marlon Barnes was on the witness stand and started to mention a possible previous conviction. BalenUne asked for a mistrial and the motion was denied by Circuit Judge David R. Vandenbcrf. Harrington purportedly maae a statement In the district attorney's office last March 19, the day ne was arrested, admitting Immoral acta with the young boy. but today on .the jattnei. stand he refuted the ' entire statement. He said when he made the statement he was unable to get a lawyer and 'thought he didnl have a chance. Harrington denied any Improprie ties with the youth, but admitted giving him clothing and money on several occasions last fall and win ter. He said, however, he tried to make the boy stay away from his cabin on Michigan street and that the youth Insisted on coming there to star on various nights. A witness for Harrington. Ralph Harp, testified this morning he suved at the Indian's cabin most of last January and February while the boy was a frequent visitor and that he never saw anything Im proper between Harrington and the you'n. Luciano Goes Into 'Exile' In Tiny Town ROME, July I W Charles "Lucky" Luciano, onetime New York view king, will be -exiled" to a village in Sicily "because his presence in Rome is a crime threat," Italian authorities announced today.
