Jury Today

Balenune asserted that the ques
tion was put In solely to prejudice
the Jury against Harrington. Yester
day, when Deputy Sheriff Marlon
Barnes was on the witness stand
and started to mention a possible
previous conviction. BalenUne asked
for a mistrial and the motion was
denied by Circuit Judge David R.
Vandenbcrf.
Harrington purportedly maae a
statement In the district attorney's
office last March 19, the day ne was
arrested, admitting Immoral acta
with the young boy. but today on
.the jattnei. stand he refuted the
' entire statement. He said when he
made the statement he was unable
to get a lawyer and 'thought he
didnl have a chance.
Harrington denied any Improprie
ties with the youth, but admitted
giving him clothing and money on
several occasions last fall and win
ter. He said, however, he tried to
make the boy stay away from his
cabin on Michigan street and that
the youth Insisted on coming there
to star on various nights.
A witness for Harrington. Ralph
Harp, testified this morning he
suved at the Indian's cabin most of
last January and February while
the boy was a frequent visitor and
that he never saw anything Im
proper between Harrington and the
you'n.
Luciano Goes
Into 'Exile'
In Tiny Town

"Lucky" Luciano, onetime New
York view king, will be -exiled" to
a village in Sicily "because his
presence in Rome is a crime threat,"
Italian authorities announced today.
The 61-year-old Sicilian was
picked up yesterday In his fashion
able Rome- apartment. He was
questioned In connection with an
international drive on drug traffic
but "no evidence was found against
him." polio said.
Nevertheless, they said, he will
be sent to the tiny village of Lereara
Fnddi, near Palermo.
The village was his home once be
fore. When Luciano waa deported
from the United Slates in 147 and
arrived here, he was restricted to
Sicily. Later, however, he waa per
mitted to circulate freely.
Luciano was imprisoned In New
York in 1918 fir selling narcotics.
He later became the "boss" of New
York's prostitution ring. He was
sentenced in 1936 to serve 30 to 50
years in 8ing Sing on compulsory
prostitution charges. Alter serv
ing nine years and six months he
was paroled for deportation.

Falls has announced that there
encouraging evidence In the Mi
ford oil well drilling operations at
Crow ramp near burns.
Boothby said that several Klam
ath Falls people have Interests in
the oil well. He hss been working
with George Mefford and associate
at Burns.
He said that evidences of oil tn
quantities are being brought up
from a depth of 1788 fret.
