day of Monroe Sweetiand, demo
cratic national committeeman, and
Nancy Honeyman Robinson, na
tional committee omsn.
Under recently established state
party rules, the choice is up to
these two. They sent their indorse
ments to President Truman and
Sen. J. Howard McOrath, chair
man of the democratic national
committee.
Solomon was a Truman supporter
last year. He has been an active
democrat.
Sweetiand said Hall S. Lusk, chief
Justice of the state supreme court,
and Circuit Judge Earl C. Latour
ette. Oregon City, were considered,
but then eliminated because of "an
unwritten policy which prefers the
appointment of men under 60 years
of age."
Sweetiand added that Henry L.
Hess, La Grande. U. S. attorney for.
Oregon, also was eliminated be
cause he ts from eastern Oregon,
the same district that produced
Oregon's present two federal Judges.
Western Oregon now needs repre
sentation. Sweetiand said.
He added that W. L. Josslin. state
democratic chairman, made known
his candidacy too late for con
sideration. The third federal Judgeship Is be
ing considered in a bill now before
congress.
