Plan Gets
Council OK
After months of hard work mid
diligent etudy by Mayor Robert A.
Thompson, tht city council and the
city lighting committee, the way haa
been paved to Rive Klamath Palls'
business area that "new look."
The mayor announced today that,
after a special meeting of the city
council and the lighting commit
tee, approval has been granted to
enter Into contract with The Cali
fornia Oregon Power company for
the Installation of approximately It
light units In tht city's designated
business district I
When Copco haa submitted the j
contract, councilmen will draw up I
an ordinance authorising the con- !
tract for the lighting project. j

said that the plan calls for 21.000 I
lumen light units throughout. The
cost to the city w ill be In the neigh
borhood of 10.S24M annually, cov
ering 10-year span.
This includes over-all installation
and maintenance.
The area to be lighted Is Main
street, from 9nd to Esplanade.
Klamath from 4th to 12th. and Pine
from 4th to 11th, including all side
streets.

senate today passed the labor bill
constructed by Senator Taft iR-
Ohio).
The vote on passage was 51 to 44.
It contains the basic provisions of
the Taft-Hartley act and marked a
sweeping victory for the Ohio sena
tor tn hi duel with the Truman
administration over repealing the
T H taw.
It was a crushing defeat for Pres
ident Truman, who during the 194
campaign pledged repeal of the
measure.
Senator Lucas of Illinois, tht dem
ocratic leader predicted before the
vote that Mr. Truman will veto the
Taft bill If It reaches him.
Senate passage sent the measure
to the house.
House action on any labor blS It
doubtful at this session.
In any event there Is strong like
lihood that the two-year-old Taft
Hartley act will remain unchanged

earliest.
Before passage, the senate ac
