WHEAT STAGES SMALL GAIN
CHICAGO, Juna 28 lav Wheat advanced around a cent at times
on the board of trade today, apurred on by gains In cash prices In tha
Houthweat and reports of need for moisture In the spring wheat belt.
The December contract got back above 82.00.
Wheat was practically alone In Its display of firmness. Most other
commodities did not show much change, although lard provided an ex
ception by dropping sharply. October, November and December lard
registered new eeaaonal luwa.
Wheat closed unchanged to l'i higher, July 81 88U-K, corn was
lower to S higher, July 134,i-', . oeta were unchanged to 4 lower.
July 68S, rye waa S-1S higher, July $l.40'4-,. soybeans were S-l
higher, July 8234')-, and lard was 8 to 38 cents a hundred pounds

plicant for purchase of the timber
decided not to enter bids at this
time due to "general economic con
ditions and the outlook of the lum
ber market."' said M. M. Nelson,
supervisor of Umpqua National
forest.
The forest service offered 38 mil
lion feet of timber at a total ap
praised price of 8268. 183 with Doug
las fir at 84 78 per thousand.
Nelson said the appraisals were
made 30 days prior to the auction
and were considered to be In line
with current lumber prices. Harbor
Plywood Co, the only applicant felt
however It could not afford to pur
chase the timber at the present
time, said Nelson. "
This Is the second auction con
ducted by the Umpqua forest re
cently at which no bids have been
received. A similar auction waa held
approximately a month ago. The
appraisals In that sale were gener
ally higher than those In Monday's
sale.
