Dual Fuel System For Car

neers are doing a lot of research
on dual fuel systems.
The goal, of course, is to get more
miles per dollar out of gasoline costs.
Right now, the experts say, the ave
rage motorist wastes more gasoline
than he uses. Part of this is due
to the Inefficient combustion. Most
of It, however, results tram the fact
the motorist has to carry higher
quality fuel than he need at all
The Ideal dual fuel system would
feed the engine higher quality fuel
for starting and heavy going only.
Once the car Is under way and
moving en fairly level surface, lower
grade fuel would be used.
One leading car maker In co
operation with a widely known
petroleum expert 1 understood to
have made some significant ad
vance In dual fuel research. Heart
of the system is the carburetor
which automatically switches from
one to another quality of fuel. '
Separate tank for the two grade
of fuel are required. In this respect
the system differs fron, some others
that have sought to enrich a low
grade fuel by Injection at the re
quired moment. These devices In
crease the fuel quality by injecting
alcohol and lead at the right time.
Details of the device being de
veloped by one of the major car
builders have not been disclosed.
They probably win not be made
known until the system has been
perfected.
Presumably when that time cornea
the system will be offered a another
item of optional equipment at extra
cost. The engineers wont even
speculate on the probable cost to
the motorist. They say retail cost
are not part of their worries.
