Prickly Heat Cause:

In extremely hot and damp weath
er the skin oiten breaks out with
prickly heat or a heat rash. Small
plnhead -aired red or pink swellings,
sometimes blister-like, appear on
the skin. It Is caused by overheat
ing the sweat glands which are lo
cated almost everywhere just beluw
the surface of the skin. Occasion
ally these small red swellings of the
skin come together and form larger
blisters.
In places where there Is friction
on the skin, such as under a belt
or a wrist watch band, the skin is
particularly likely to break out. This
is probably because the band tenas
to prevent the free outflow of sweat.
Other places on the body particu
larly likely to be affected are the
back, and the sides of the abdomen.
TYPICAL SYMPTOMS
Prickling, burning sensations, and
tingling are common. Itching is
usually mild. When the blisters
rupture, small crusts form on the
skin. The affected skin usually feels
warm and dry, especially after ex.
erase. On these places the sweat
glands are shut off and therefore
there Is an absence of sweating.
In northern areas prickly heat is
generally little more than an an
noyance. In tropical countries,
however, severe Inflammation of the
deeper layers of the skin may be
produced.
There Is no great problem In
diagnosis. . Nearly everyone who
has prickly heat knows what 11

It was a Joyous day when Eddie
Lewis, of my town, won the Irish
Sweepstake grand prise, which paid
him a cool s 100.000. But what made
it a really gala event was the arrival
of Eddie's circus, almost simultane
ously. Eddie's oldest, most treasured
friends are circus people. He knows
them all and they all know him.
The circus was his life from youth.
Hes In his 10 s now and has left
the road.
His first thought was "if only my
old real pals were here to share tills
Joy with me." Eddie Is that kind of
a guy. He got his wish. Immediately
came Cole Brothers circus, with ,
w hlch Eddie spent many of his cir
cus years, and brought scores of the
friends he d wished for. ,
Eddie took me to the circus lot to
spend tlie whole day with his cro-
lies. In the dining tent the colored I
boys w ho served us approached I
Eddie with wide-eyed awe; and with j
a common request: !
"Mister Eddie, would you mine eff :
ah Jest teched you head?" Eddie
hadn't the 100 grand yet, but the
boys had faith In that old supersu-1

tain." said Eddie. "He s the fellow
who stuck himself up."

Black Mountain one time vowed to
swear off his losses In the circus
family's stud game. He accumulated 1
a goodly bank roll when he quit, and
carried It in a money belt. In time :
he weakened but limited himself to
nsk only a modest sum. When he
lost that ho left the car. The money '
in his belt belonged to a reformed '
Black Mountain who tisd forsworn
poker; and It could not be touched. :

Zack Terrell, who Just sold the
Cole show, heard a one-sided con-,
eersation out In the car vestibule j
He opened the door and says he
saw Black Mountain with a six
shooter at his own temple. This Is
wha' Zack says he heard:

It was Black Mountain holding
himself up at the point of a gun.
In a few minutes he returned to the
game with a wad that would choke
an ox. the fruits of his conscience

The other side of Black Mountain
is that he's a sizeable nurseryman j
and landscaper in North Carolina. 1
When he can t follow the circus any j
more that's what he ll retire to. j
Many of these Interesting people
have some sort of a security are In I
the hole. Eddie Lewis Just got his
ace: and everybody who knows him ,
Is as tickled as he.

figure In this yam again. Jess Bui- 1
lock, who rose to be treasurer of the
Barnum show, and Eddie Lewis, wsy
back when, were touring with
Howe's Great London circus. The ,
little show was a hapless outfit, al- I
ways in some kind of trouble. i
Jess had a tiny office at one end
of the concessions car where a crap !
game was In session. There was Just
room In the office for a small table j
and a chair. Jess was In there

of Bullock's head but he hardly
looked up as ho said. "Think noth
ing of It, Eddie. Anything ran hap
pi n with this damned show."
And that's pretty much true of
any circus. Anything can happen
and usually does.

Loans will cover up to 85 per cent
of the cost of the storage structure '
or 4S cents per bushel of the rated
storage rapacity, whichever is the
smaller. The loans w ill be repayable
on an annual installment plan, over ,
a period of not more than five years. .
Provision Is made for extension of
these loans In instances of crop
failure.
