Best Cure For
Knapweed
Cultivation of Russian knapweed
appear to be the most effective
meana of eradication where It la pos
tlble to cultivate.
Knapweed has proven to be quite
resistant to the action of 2.4-D and
only limited kills have been re
ported. Since knapweed has an ex-
t tensive creeping root system, two or
three years of cultivation may be
needed before the weed Is complete
ly killed.
The method of killing weeds by
cultivation is a starvation process,
the Idea being to continually draw
food reserves from the roots, never
allowing them to be replenished.

point where rot occurs, which com
pletes the destruction.
Cultivation should begin In the
, spring; first by plowing the area
' after the weeds have emerged. Pre
pare the ground so that a duck
foot cultivator may be used In sub
sequent cultivations which are to be
made at intervals of from 6 to 1
days after each emergence, through
out the remainder of the season.
Duck feet should be set to run 3 or
4 Inches underground and must be
kept sharp so as to cut the roots off
rather than tear and drag them '

Kennewick Job
Mrs. Frances Palmer, executive
secretary of the American Red Cross,
Klamath county chapter, has been
detailed to dlisler relief woilc at
Kennewick, Wash., according to
word received here Wednesday by
her office.
Mrs. Palmer is case work super
visor and has 10 workers under her.
