navy has announced that 28 sailors
and marines were believed lost In
Hampton Roads where a swamped
liberty launch dumped about U0 men

The navy released Uie names last
night of 18 sailors and 10 murines
unaccounted for after the capsizing
of the bO-fool motor launch Monday
night about 300 yards from the air
craft carrier Keaisarge.
The Kearsarge and the II other
ships which comprised a task force
were delayed ten hours In sailing
because of the tragedy. The task
force, carrying a complement of ap
proximately 1100 second division
marines, will relieve similar force
which has been In the Mediter
ranean since last winter.
The ships did not depart until
3:30 p. m. yesterday.
The open launch waa returning a
liberty party of sailors and marines
to the Kearsarge when the accident
occurred. The sea waa choppy, a
light rain was falling and a 30-mlle
per hour wind was blowing In gusts,
Jamea T. Walton, 23, seaman first
