Rays Bound
Over Thursday

Bay and ht wile Donna, were bound
over to superior court nere murs
dav afternoon following a prellmt
nary hearing before Justice of Uic
Peace Clifford E. Butler.
Both face murder charges In con
nection with the atarvatlon death of
their 7-week-old son, Lawrence E.
Ray Jr.
No testimony was given at Thurs
day's hearing which was a continua
tion of Tuesday's preliminary hear
fng at which time Mrs. Ray testi
fied. Ray did not testily t enner
the Inquest or hearing.
Both will be arraigned In superior
court before 8uperior Judite James
M. Allen, at which time they will be
permitted to enter pleas. No date
has been set. Judge Allen will ap
point an attorney for Mrs. Ray if she
has not retained counsel by the time
of arraignment and If she desires
an attorney.
Fire Alarm At
Ewauna Turned In
A transformer burned out In the
Ewauna Box company yards at 9:45
a. m. today and the city fire depart
ment responded in a hurry to the
alarm turned In from the big mill.
There was no damage and the
truck rolled back home after
thorough check.
Loney To Teach
At University
Andrew Loney Jr., director of
musia education In the city schools,
will spend eight weeks at the Uni
versity of Oregon teaching from
June 7 to August 13.
Loney will teach two graduate
courses in music and one public
school music course in addition to
choral technique and choral litera
ture. Following a vacation at the
beach with his family, Loney will
return here to resume his work in
the city schools.
Ill With FeTer Wayne Elliott,
seventh-grader at Fremont and son
of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Elliott of
1240 Monclaire, is confined to his
home with an attack of rheumatic
fever, but his condition is reported
as somewhat improved.

Word ol the slaying was relayed
here yesterday by the cutter Bitter
sweet. The cutter said It hud re
ceived message saying: "There has
been a murder aboard Uie Pacific
Explorer."
The message said the slayer had
surrendered his gun to the captain.
It did not Identity eitlier the victim
or his slayer.
The Pacific Explorer left Seattle
March 36 to study undeveloped fish.

national Jnycee convention to be
held in Philadelphia June 1, 3 and 4.
Mrs. 8andineyer will accompany

fore returning home here around

Nine Injured In
Auto Accident
DALLAS. May 38 (A'l An auto
mobile hurtled off a highway and
oerturned at Salt Creek, seven
miles northwest of here yesterday.
Injuring seven children and two
women. None was hurt seriously.
The driver, Mrs. Webster Irving:
her daughter, Teresa, 7. and her son,
Hilly Joe, 8, were hospitalized here
