Thieves Irked
Over Twitting
HAt.riMOltK, May 6 iPI-A band
of thieves apparently took it pretty
hard when their victim twitted them
for running off with a mere 1100
while missing a $1000 payroll.
Walter Weeks, president of the
robbed Nut Shop, wrote a humorous
poem about It.
So last week they broke into his
car and stole the manuscript of the
poem. Yesterday they broke into the
Nut Shop again and stole Weeks'
fountain pen.

PULLMAN. Wash.. May 6 tJP 1 put him in
Etaoin Shrdlu. the little demon of 1 sln saia-
the linotypes, ran for office Tues
day at Washington State college.
His fate at the polls was the same
as his normal treatment by proof
readers. When the votes were
counted, he was the little man who
wasn't there.
You haven't met Shrdlu?
Well, when linotype operators
make a mistake, they finish out
the line of type by running a finger
down the keyboard. Out pops
Etaoin Shrdlu. The proofreaders
usually blue-pencil him into obli
vion before he gets into print.
But some of the Washington
State students must have decided
he deserved public notice after all
his years as a power behind the
press.
Handbills and placards promot
ing his candidacy were distributed
before the student election.
"Shrdlu will run for any office
where you will." one
"A vote for Shrdlu is a vote for
Shrdlu." said another.
"Shrdlu is the unanimous choice
of the fourth party," said a third.
College officials tried to learn
who distributed and printed the
signs. They failed. Print shop work
ers denied they had anything to do
with it. Student leaders said it was
a mystery to them.
And Etaoin Shrdlu himself was
back in the linotype case, enclosed
as usual.
