3-Year Term
Leonard Thomas Powers, 20, was
sentenced to three yeara In the Ore
gon state penitentiary Wednesday
uftcrnoon on a plea of guilty to
forgery.
The youth admitted forging a
fictitious name to aeveral checks
here during March and April, but
contended In court that aeveral
other checks which he cashed were
authorized by another man named
Ja.k Mayfleld.
A warrant of arrest la out for
Mayfleld but police believe he skip
ped about the time Powers was ar
rested last week.
Powers and John Welsh, 37. of
Bly, are now scheduled for a trip to
Halem and prison. Welsh was sen
tenced to five years Wednesday in
circuit court when he pleaded guilty
to passing bad checks. He has four
previous convictions.
