Strike Threat Props Grains
CHICAQO, April 2 (P) railroad striks threat sided In propping
train price on the board of trada today, particularly May contracts.
But official expressions of optimism over the prospect of avoiding the
strike caused the gains to be reduced or eliminated in lata dealings.
Also helping grain prices were a boost In the government buying
price for wheat, a pick-up In domestic flour business In the Northwest
and Increased demand for feed grains from the East.
Wheat closed unchanged to 2 cents higher. May 2.46-2.47, corn
was unchanged to a cent lower. May $a.Jl-$a.21v,. Oata were -'
lower, May il.lOtt-V and soybean were 4"4 lower to 2 cent higher,
May $4.04.

thusiastic today after a look at the
Oregon Vocational school campus in
company with the director of the
school, Winston Purvtne.
"Having supported the establish
ment of Oregon Vocational school.
I wanted to see how it had devel
oped." he said. "It fills a need and
is well set up and organized. I be
lieve It will become a permanent
addition to the Oregon educational
system."
McKay voted for the OVS ap
propriation in the last session ot the
legislature. He was here today on
a campaign and speaking tour, in
cluding an address engagement be
fore the Kiwanis club.

Strike Ended

employes today ended their month-
long, violence . pimctunted strike
against the New York stock ex
change by accepting pay raises
offerrd by the- financial market.
The walkout was marked by
several disturbances and one
major clash with police when pick
et demonstrated by laying down in
the streets.
A spokesman for the exchange said
100 of the union-estimated 050
strikers would not be taken back.
Meanwhile, the strike continued
against four brokerage houses to
which the walkout spread.
The stock exchange offer accepted
today provided $3 weekly for those
earning up to $49, $4 for those earn
ing between $50 and $74. and $5
weekly for those earning more than
$74.

from a passing automobile broke
