day, will be the last chance for
Kennies Country club golfers to post
qualifying rounds for the President
Cup tourney.
About 40 llnksmen have already
got their qualifying scores on the
board and at least 20 more are need
ed to fill out the flights.
The committee handling the tour
nament will make the pairings after
the scores are posted, and the first
round In all flights will have to be
played before or on Sunday, May
. t. Any not played by that time will
be forfeited.
The weather forced moving the
tourney starting date back one week.
Reames course is now In almost
perfect condition.

baseball team, champions of the
Southern Oregon conference, are
playing the Grants Pass Cavemen
a doubleheader this afternoon at
Recreation field.
The first game is a conference en

Cavemen this season.

Calumet farm racing establishment
have Just about got themselves an
exclusive match race In the eyes of
most observers at this sprawling
derby capital. At least It won't be
a walkover.
While regular trains, planes and
buses were supplemented by specials
from all point on the compass, the
major topic of conversation was
which of Warren Wright's stars
would cop the big money In the
derby's $100,000 stake not to men
tion a 15000 gold cup and the horse
shoe blanket of roses that goes to
the "champ."
Wright said both his derby aces
would be sent out to win.
Talking about the other probable
starters In the mile and one quarter
turf classic In the same breath with
the Calumet colts just Isn't being
don.

There's a possibility that only win
betting will be allowed at Saturday's
74th running of the derby. Not since
1905. when only three horses were
entered, ha a similar situation existed.
With the probable field pared to
six horses. Churchill Downs officials
said they might meet Friday to de
termine whether they can afford to
allow both win and place betting
and still pay off at the customary
rate of not less than 10 cents on a
dollar.
Since two of these six horses form
the seemingly unbeatable Calumet
Farm entry of Citation and Coal
town, there remain only four entries
on which to bet Show wagering
definitely is out.

from an anonymous feminine caller
who said:
