day to hang for the hammer slaying
of four Japanese last October.

Vavricka, died on hla 82nd birth
day, April 10. HI4. He came to
Klamath county with a group of
Chechoslovakians In 1D0V and set
tled the town of Malln, where he
farmed for several years before go
ing to New York to make his home.
He Is survived by hla wife, Mary
of New York, two duughtera and
three sons on the east coast, daugh
ters, Mrs. Hurtle-rode of Merrill and
Mrs. Otto Kulebuugh of Covelo,
Calif., and four granddaughters,
Mrs. Albert llluke of Klamath Fulls,
Mrs. Henry Cole of Merrill, Mrs.
Paschall Hodges of Merrill and Mrs.
William Fnlvey of Merrill.

About Killing
CH1CAOO, April 15 VP) A young
man recently released from psycho
pathic treatment led police today
to the body of a woman and said
he "believes" he strangled her.
The body of the woman, about 36,
was In an alley with a necktie drawn
tightly around the neck. The name
Minnie Olllls was tattooed above the
left knee.

A. Is. Brodle said the man gave his
nume as Charles Stephens, 22, a
chef and baker, formerly of Oads-
den, Ala. Brodle said he Intends to
ask tha state's attorney to Investi
gate why the man w a released
from the psychopathic hospital
Monday "In his pathetic condition."
Orlffln said the man told him
he did not remember strangling the
woman.
The officer aald he received a tele
phone call from the man saying "I
believe I Just strangled a woman.
I'll be at Madison and Clinton."
The man told officers he was not
acquainted with the woman and
that his last recollection before
standing over her body was a visit
to a tavern last night where he
drank several bottles of beer.

A Jury convicted Brownie's own
er of keeping a ferocious dog, a
churge preferred by a man who
claimed Brownie bit him.
Normally such a verdict means a
death sentence for the dog in
volved. But Judge J. Frank Oraf
wanted to see the dog.
When Brownie was brought Into
the courtroom, he shuffled towards
attorneys to have his head patted.
Then, he looked up at the Judge.
That was enough Judge Oraf
aentenced Brownlee owner to a
years probation and allowed the
dog to go home.
