army of angry truck drivers bivou
acked in trucka on Pennsylvania's
$70,000,000 "dream" highway.
Major Charles Keller of the state
police announced seven of the truck
drivers were fined 28.S0 apiece-on
charges of throwing stones at two
trucka whose drivers refused to join
the sitdown.
Keller said the stones damaged
new automobiles which were being
transported on the two trucks.
The sitdowners said the demon
stration on the streamlined Pitts-burgh-Harrisburg
express highway
was a protest against a state weight
law.
A committee of truck drivers aaid
they would call on state police at
Harrisburg again today with a brief
outlining their demands.

lamette locks here in March dropped
below the same month a year ago.
The army corps of engineers re
ports last month's total was 144.310
tons, which included 30.476.000 board
feet of logs. A year ago It was 194.

New Health
Rule Starts
PORTLAND, April 6 State
health officials in a move expected
to become standard throushout Ore
gon no longer are issuing birth
certificates on request
Dr. Harold M. Erickson. state
health officer, said only a "short
form" certificate not snowing the
name of the parents was being
issued.
A court order is needed to get the
full-length certificate.
Erickson said this was the result
of a law passed at the last legis
lature, as interpreted in a recent
opinion from the seate attorney gen
eral's office.
The law is designed to prevent of
ficials from disclosing to the public
the legitimacy or Illegitimacy of
births.
Multnomah county officials said
they would follow the state's lead,
but did not expect this course of
action to make any noticeable dif
ference. They said newspapers' vital sta
tistics, for example, would continue
as before, for they intend to make
public the legitimate births, along
with names of parents, as they have
in the past.
Action Expected
On Metal Wage
PORTLAND. April 6 iP The
AFL metal trade union council in
Portland was expected to act today
on a new wage offer by employers.
E. A. Bird, council secretary, said
the offer of U' cents an hour
increase was for top classifications.
The 1100 members of the unions in
volved earlier had voted to strike.
They also rejected an 8-cent an
hour increase. The hourly scale
varies for the different unions.
A union spokesman said foundry
molders had been offered a slightly
higher raise, but did not disclose
the amount.
