Bike Wreck
Hurts Pair
Two persons were Injured, one
seriously, when their motorcycle
struck a soft shoulder three miles
north ot Chcmult shortly after
o'clock Wednesday evening.
Pearl Pickens, 19, resident of
Avon, Ida., suffered cerebral con
ci.sslon and other hurts, and It In
Klamath Valley hospital. Driver of
the motorcycle. Frank Morra, about
28. San Batista. Calif., had a bad
cut on the lip and other injuries
but was dismissed from the hos
pital following treatment.
The two were en route south
when the accident occurred. They
told attendant! they had ridden 550
miles on the cycle Wednesday. Mor
ra said he hit the shoulder in an
attempt to avoid water on the road.
Both were brought here by Profes
sional Ambulance Service.
Spring Fever
Leads Girls
On Long Trip
Bprliig fever hit and hit hard
Wednesday and two little first
graders were prime victims of the
ailment.
The little girls, students at Mills,
were the object of a city and sub
urban wide search from about 3
o'clock until after 7 o'clock Wednes
day night when they were found,
wandering In the vicinity of the
county fairgrounds.
Both had succumbed to the balmy
spring weather and had discarded
shoes and stockings.
The little girls decided to take
their spring walk during the noon
hour. Neither returned to class. At
3 o'clock one mother called to In
quire as to her child's whereabouts
and the search started. City police
and state police, neighbors and
friends Joined In looking for the
two little ones.
Mrs. Lucille Eatcs, Mills school
secretary, prowled the city in her
car accompanied by one frantic
mother. The other was forced to re
main at home to care for two
j younger children but kept In con
tact with police. Mrs. Eatcs decided
to look further afield and shortly
; alter driving toward the falr
1 grounds, located the children.
' Both girls said they "Just wanted
to go for a walk."
I Their stroll resulted in a good
i appetite, however. One had had
; nothing to eat since breakfast, the
; other had had a snack at lunch.
Neither child was In school this
i morning. They were downtown with
, their mothers, shopping for shoes.

Reckless Driving
Fine Handed Out
Larry Goerges, 2524 Reclamation,
was fined (25 and given a five-day
Jail sentence In police court this
morning on a charge of reckless
driving Involving a truck-auto acci
dent on East Main Wednesday
night.
His oil truck struck the rear end
of a car belonging to Vernon Leroy
Durant and parked at 142 E. Main.
Goerges said he swerved his truck
to avoid hitting a child running
across the street.
He admitted to police he had been
drinking beer before the accident.
