lously escaped two spectacular over
night fires here Thursday, which
demolished the Joint services' offi
cers' mesa at Jericho licacli and
swept through an elevator shaft at
Washington hotel In the East Hast
ings district.
The officers' mess was completely
gutted and damage has been unof
ficially estimated at 1250.00(1. The
hotel blaze caused only slight dam
age but forced the 80 guests to flee
In night clothes.
Twelve Canadian army officers
fled the Inferno at the mess, the
former Jericho Oolf and Country
club. Cause of the fire la still un
known but It la believed to have
started In the lounge.
