Marshall testified for two hours
before the senate foreign relations
committee on the administration's
reriuest for $27S 000.000 additional
military aid for Greece and Turkey.
Marshall said what he had to tell
the senators behind closed doors.
But after the session the com
mittee relensed a statement he had
given It.
In It. Marshall said that "serious
as It Is. the Greek situation is not
without hope."
But he warned:
'The danger remains that the
communist -dominated countries of
Europe will Increase their pressure
or Greece Just as they have In other
directions in Europe. It Is the boast
of the totalitarian leaders that de
mocracies are Incapable of timely

brush-off to the romantic legend of
leap year.
Thry predict the 1948 marriage
rate will decline from the high levels
of the past two years. The all-time
peak 104(1 was 103 for each 1000
population. The 1947 rate was about
an eighth less.

Charles H. Landis, former Kla
math Falls bakery operator, died In
Medford Sunday at the age of 70.
Funeral services will be held Wed
nesday at 1 :30 In the Conger-Morris
chapel at Medford. and burial will be
In the family plot at Sacramento
Thursday.
Mr. Landis was born in California
February 25, 1878. He operated bak
eries in Sacramento and Lincoln
until 1020 and moved to Klamath
Falls that year. He resided here
until 1935 when he moved to Coos
Bay. Mr. Landis had lived In Med
ford 11 years.
He Is survived by his widow,
Grace. In Medford; two children, H.
L. Landis and Mrs. Virginia Cal
houn, both of Klamath Falls, and
two sisters.
