Soroptimists Hear
Special Speaker
Florence Bcardklcy, state superintendent of elementary education,
was guest speaker at the Thursday noon luncheon meeting ot the
Sorontlmlst club of Klamath Falls.
M1M Beurdhley, who is a member of the Salem Soroptimi.st club,
chose as her subject, "Not For Ourselves Alone." She staled that "We
are already fluhtliiR the third World War, and In this stase It is still
a war of Idealism. We are too apt to think of ourselves alone and not
of what others think of us. Wc must look to ourselves In what we think
or do, because of Uie effect it will
have on the peoples 01 uie worio
Wo must know how other people in
other countries feel and think so
that wo will have a better undcr
slandlnu of how to live peaceably
with them."
Miss Beard.sley stated further
that Americans, as a nation, must
determine what they believe and for
what they stand and not Just talk
about it but follow through, be
cause that's what the other nations
are watching to see if they intend
to carry out their convictions.
In closing, she said that "we must
achieve understanding for ourselves
and see that our children under
stand by educating them to have
hope of liberty and justice in a land
where we can live free of fear."
All members present enthusiasti
cally agree that Miss Beardsley's
talk was timely and inspirational.
Doris Peyton, vice president, pre
sided at the meeting in the absence
of Thelma Henry who is In San
Francisco on business.
Reports of several committees
were heard and the following guests
were Introduced: Kathleen Thomp
son presented Mrs. William Nelson,
formerly of Portland, Mrs. Ralph
W. Stearns was the guest of Lucille
O'Neill, and Dr. Ruth Hopson. of
the University of Oregon extension
service, was the guest of Isabel
Brixncr.
Bill Procter came in and made a
short announcement of the opening
of the Teen-Ape center, and Intro
duced Rodney BelL Rodney told of
the scrap drive the Teen-Agers are
planning to have to raise money for
their building. He said that the
Teen-Agers plan to manage the
center under adult supervision.

Catholic Daughters of America

8 o'clock. Rose O'Leary. grand re

Farewell Affair
Mr. and Mrs. James Kerns en
tertained Friday evening of last
week at their home. 449 Laguna
street, in honor of Mr. and Mrs.
Joe S. Bally ot Merrill.
Mr. and Mrs. Bally plan to leave
soon for The Dalles, where they will
make their home.

The Eastern 8tar Social club met
March S at the Masonic hall with
38 members present. Tables were
decorated In an Easter motif with
daffodils and yellow tapers and min
iature Easter bunnies and ducks.
Prizes lor the day went to Mrs.
E. Geinger. Mrs. P. O. Wilson and
Bertha Baker.
Hostesses were Mrs. Joe Kennedy,
Mrs. Leo N. Huls and Mrs. J. C.
Hunt. Those attending the social
club meeting for the first time were
Mrs. Paul Jones, Mrs. E. Geinger,
Mrs. J. C. Renie and Letha Home,
all of Aloha chapter, OES.
