Divorce OK'd

Gioia Barker Grimditch, pretty 23-year-old
Gould heiress, today was
granted a divorce from William
Henry Grimditch Jr., and custody ol
tneir two children.
The outcome of last week's sen
sational four-day divorce trial here
was told last night by Superior
Court Clerk Walter Wilson to whom
Judge J. Mercer Johnson mailed
the decision from Tucson.
Wilson said there was no men
tfen of alimony or child-support
rnyment in the decision. The
lather was granted "reasonable visi
tation" privileges.
Gioia had filed the divorce ac
tion but her husband countered
with a cross complaint in which he
charged infidelities and based much
cf his can on a gilt-edged diary
kept by his wife while he was over
seas. The young heiress, crippled for
life in an automobile accident with
lier husband late in 1946. had de
nied from the witness stand hav
ing intimacies with any man other
than her husband.
"Gone are the days of parties,
carefree life and lighthearted days,"
her attorney, Frank Beer, told the
court in its final session. "All this
oung mother wants now is her
bibles."
Flood Damage
Tops $11 Million
EUGENE, March 5 (JPt The Wil
lamette river's two floods this winter
caused damage of 17,550.000 in the
area south of Albany, army engineers
estimated today.
CoL O. E. Walsh said the Januarv
flood caused 6.450,000 damage and
the February flood, $1,100,000. For
the entire valley, the January flood
did (11300.000 damage, he said.

Fremont
Mrs. Paul' Buck was the speaker
of the afternoon on Thursday when
the Fremont PTA met In the audi
torium. Mrs. Buck discussed various
phases of recreation and urged par
ticipation of adults into this field.
She mentioned the number of re
creational projects. Including night
classes, available for adults, and
spoke also of the need for participa
tion of parents in youth groups.
She completed her talk with an out
line of work facing the Teen-Age
council in aiding this group of
young people in locating a center
for themselves as well as the need of
this particular group for assistance
from the grown-ups.
The girls glee club sang two num
bers directed by Mrs. Pamela Hunt
and following the business meeting
and the room count, tea w as served.
All members of Fremont PTA and
interested persons are invited to the
benefit card party and tea on Satur
day. March 13, in the school audi
torium. All funds will go into the
lunch project which provides noon
lunches for underprivileged children.
Mrs. Ptnniger, Mrs. Fisher and
Mrs. Cummings were named as
members of the nominating com
mittee to present the nomination of
officers for the coming year at the
April meeting.
Shasta
Founders Day was observed by the
PTA on February 25 at Shasta
school. Wilson Wiley explained the
proposed changes of the district
boundaries which were voted on
February 26. Other guests includ
ed Mr. Heyden, clerk of the county
schools, and Mr. Heston, clerk of the
city schools. Mrs. Harold Shaffer,
county council president, and Mrs.
Hugh Haddocks, vice president of
the county council, were also
visitors.
Shasta PTA president, Mrs. Earl
Sheridan, called the meeting to
order. Following the business, an
nouncements were made. The study 1
group met March 3 at the school.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Baxter. Mrs.
Phair and Miss Knopp. was the
silver tea.
Corsages were presented to former
Shasta PTA presidents that were
present and also to Mrs. Shaffer,
Mrs. Haddock and Mrs. Peyton.
Mrs. Lois Crumpacker. PTA his
torian, presented a concise history
of Shasta PTA. Mrs. Shaffer and
Mrs. Haddock each gave a short
talk.
The meeting adjourned and re
freshments were served in the
cafeteria by the fifth grade room
mothers.
Pilot Walks Away
But Plane Stays
EUGENE. Ore., March 5 iP The
plane was wrecked completely, but
the pilot got only a bump on the
head in a crash here yesterday.
John Peter Beck, 28, route 2,
Bremerton. Wash., was the pilot. His
army surplus trainer BT-13 crashed
a quarter-mile from the runway of
the B and H. flying service here.
Beck, who was on his way from
Bremerton to Roseburg, had stopped
here for directions.
The plane was broken in two at
the cockpit and the engine was
tossed 50 feet from the wreckage.
Beck returned to Bremerton by
other means.

The general public Is invited to
see demonstrations from 10 a. m. un
til 4:30 p. m.. Skinner added. Demon
stration subjects will include cook
ing, sewing, camp cooking, home
making and livestock work. Demon
strations have been planned and
worked out by club members with
help from their leaders.
Sunday. March 7. the final day
of National Club week, is 4-H club
Sunday and will be observed in
many communities by club mem
bers and their families.
Redmond Police
Chief Threatened
REDMOND. March 5 (Pi Police
today guarded the apartment of
Police Chief Harry E. Hogue after
he received a note threatening the
lives of his children.
The note said. "Chief Hogue. you
better get out of Redmond If you
don't want one of your kids killed."
It was found under the door by his
wife.
Hogue said he had no intention of
leaving. He blamed the note on
criminals hard-pressed by police in
