Gay Affairs Planned

One of the gayest af lairs of tlie week is planned lor llio
younger group loniglit at llio Willard hotel ballroom when
Marilyn Miller, daughter o( Mr. and Mrs. W D. Miller, and
Beverly Eclls, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Berkeley Eclls, aro
hostesses at a dancing party from 7.30 until 10 o'clock.
Thero will bo a punchbowl, square dancing ond Virginia
reels and games with decorations stressing the. St. Valen

Week's Highlight
; Thursday Tea
Outstanding on the week's social calendar was a lovely
tea given by the Klamath Falls branch of the National Coun
cil of Republican Women, to compliment Mrs. John H. Hall,
wife of Oregon's governor, who, with her husband, was a
Klamath Falls visitor.
An attractive array of red, white ond blue greeted guests
offending the Lincoln Day tea. Bouquets of flowers, carry
ing out the patriotic motif, were arranged about the rooms,
'and ot the tea table.

CHARMING VISITOR in Klomath Falls this week was Mrs. John H. Hall,
left, wife of Oregon's governor. Mrs. Hall wos feted at a delightful tea
given by the Klomath Foils bronch of the Notional Republican Women's

used at a Valentine party tonight
when Sara Stewart will entertain
classmates at the home of her par

the affair with games and dancing

Opinions Still Fly
On Picture Dates
To ronlintic with la.st week's discuxsion on "old pictures," the
differences of opinion keep floating, into this office. But at lea.st
one thing is now strnlcht In our minds. When Thomas Lnmout was
summoned to New York on the shooting of J. P. Morgan, he DID
get out of here by car. The shooting occurred In New York on July
3. 1016 and on the next day. which was the July 4th holiday. Rose
Poole, remembers very distinctly she worked all day In the KD
offices relaying messages to Mr. La mom who was at Harrlman lodge
si that time.
The old Herald of July 3 carried two banners, one "Bomb Ex
ploded In U. S. Capitol Last Night" and the second. "J. P. Morgan
Shot By Sujiyoscd German at His Home." The next day was a holi
day and onNjuly 5. The Herald carried a head "Lamont Speeds
to New York" and we quote:
"T. W. Lamont. first partner of J. P. Morgan, who was seriously
shot last Saturday at his home In Glcncove. New York. etc.. etc.. is
speeding to New York as fast as automobile and train can carry him.
"W. P. Johnson drove to the lodge and return In three hours
Saturday over slippery mountain roads In his Peerless Six. Here D.
J. Desmond of the Klamath Meat company joined the party and
lliey left at 6:45 for Weed via Topsy Grade. Johnson drove from
here and Louis Hoagland was taken along as extra driver, driving
back from Weed Sunday. Mr. Lamont took the Shasta at Weed."
Old pictures always bring up diversified opinions but that makes
It interesting and also proves an old truth that history Is as argu
mentative as all get out. In fact the picture of Mr. Lamont, Mr.
Harriman and Frank Ira White. In Mrs. Francis Olds' opimon, was
not taken at Harriman lodge but on the porch of the old Ewauna
House which stood for many years at Fourth and Mam where a
1 service station now graces the property! We hope the story con
cerning Harriman lodge In this Issue docs not create too much differ
ence of opinion. Our old news source. Buck Williams, is now in
Williams, Calif., and well wait until his return for the storm to
break. '
People who met Mrs. John H. Hall, wife of the governor, were
disappointed that she could not spend Friday here while her husband
busied himself In Lakevicw on state business. Mrs. Hall left late
Thursday night by train, after the Lincoln Day banquet, as little
daughter Diane In Portland is under the weather.
Mrs. Hall had a busy day. what with attending the Suroptiinist

, Juanita Haley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Perry Haley,
Malin, recently became the bride of Thomas E. Daughtery of San Fran
cisco. Word of the nuptials reached here this week. The groom ls the
son of Gayle Daughtery, Leland. Illinois.
The double ring service was read In the First Presbyterian church In
the bay eitv.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a family wedding
gown of brocaded eggshell satin, made with a sheer yoke outlined with a
fold of satin. The leg-o'-mutton sleeves were pointed at the wrist and
the train was full length. Her finger
up illusion veil fell from a coronet
of seed pearls. She carried a whits
prr er book, topped with a single
orchid from which fell a shower of
white satin ribbon and stephanotls.
Mrs. Iola Hitt of Detroit. Mich.,
came west to be matron of honor
for her sister. Her frock was of rose
chiffon and in her hair was an ar
rangement of forget-me-nots and
pink bouvardla.
Bridesmaid was a younger sister,
Mrs. Maxinc Bassart of Menlo Park,
Calif., who wore blue chiffon and
lace and an lndentical flower ar
rangement In her hair. Both at
tendants wore long gloves to match
their frocks.
A. J, Leiss, San Francisco, was
best man.
A reception in the Royal suite of
the Palace hotel followed the cere
mony with the bride and groom cut
ting their beautiful three-tiered wed
ding cake.
For traveling Mrs. Daughtery
chose a toast shade gabardine suit
with black accessories, and she wore
the orchid from her prayer book at
the shoulder.
Since returning from their honey
moon Mr. and Mrs. Daughtery have
been at "Harmony Hill Home" In the
resort area of the high Sierras, near
Soda Spring).

Friends of Mr. and Mrs. John
Shaw gathered at the Pelican party
room last Saturday evening to bid
f.aewell to the Shaws who left this
week for Recld.ng, California, 'o
make their home.
