Suburb Group Will Oppose
County's Plan For Zoning
The proposed courtly lonlng plan
met with vigorous opposition from
the Suburban lenguo at a meeting
last night at Hhasta school.
A test vote token on the plan
showed an 80 per cent opposition.
Twenty per cent of the members of
the league cost no vole and of those
voting not one was for the plan
which deals with building restric
tions and street construction regula
tions, Ned Hmlth and L. Alva Uiwls were
appointed by Hie league to further
Investigate the plan and report bark.
They will each appoint one addi
tional member.
Objection to the plan was based
on the opinion that It Is un
democratic and there would be no
way to recall a member of the
county lonlng board or any decision
made, by the board under the pres
ent sel-up. The generally expressed
opinion of members ot the league
was that If the zoning plan should
carry In the May primary that sub
urbanites would seek a separate
municipality.
A report from the rural fire dis
trict board by Secretary Clyde Wil
liams suited that the fire house Is
about one-third completed but con
struction Is being delayed by cold
weather. The fire district was organ
ized last year and everything is
ready to start operation April 15.
Two new fire trucks are on order
al a cost of I2J.000.
Lewis reported that the 4-inlll tax
levied on all suburban property last
year has been more than balanced
by the drop In property fire lnsur
a nee rates.

Keeps Office
DUBLIN, Feb. 7 m Eamon de
Vulera, Eire's prime minister for 18
years, has lost his party majority In
parliament but Is expected to keep
his Job Just the same.
His flanna fall (government
party won only 66 of the 147 seats
In the new dall 'parliament! In last
Wednesday's general election, com
plete returns showed today.
The combined opposition. Includ
ing parties that had sought a coali
tion government, won 76. The re
maining five seats will be filled
next Tuesdoy In a postponed elec
tion In Carlow and Kilkenny coun
ties. The government party had 77 of
138 deputies in the old parliament
d:ssolved last fall.
The new dall meets February 13
to elect a prime minister. Op
ponents and supporters agree De
Vetera stands a good chance of re
election by pulling the votes of
some Independent and national la
bor party deputies. He needs 77
votes to win. Independents have
12. national labor four.
The Irish Independent, Dublin
newspaper, said he would make a
strong try for parliamentary con
trol, even if only temporary, so that
he could call another election be
fore long. He did that in 1944 after
squeaking through to re-election
the previous year.

The Doctor Says
Heart Research Gains
By KDWIN P. JORDAN, M. D.
Written for NKA Hervlrt
In 1944, about 676,000 people In
the United States died of diseases
of the heart and blood vessels. Ac
cording to the American Heart as
sociation, which Is conducting a
nationwide campaign this week, one
person In every 20 suffers from some
disease of the blood vessels or of the
heart.
Heart disease Is not a single con
dition. The campaign against It
must, therefore, be aimed at the
several underlying causes responsi
ble for the various types of diffi
culty. Rheumatic fever, for example,
Is one of the most important causes.
This develops most often during
ch'ihood. Research on means of
preventing and treating this Im
portant source of heart disease Is of
pressing Importance.
High blood pressure and harden
ing of the arteries are other ex
tremely Important types of blood
vessel and heart difficulty. Here, too,
research mast go forward on many
fronta In order to find the cause and
means of prevention and treatment.
These two afflictions may be follow
ed by bleeding or a clot In the brain,
causing a stroke of apoplexv.
Coronary thrombosis, which Is a
clot In the artery supplying the
heart, and angina pectoris are also
common complications. Much has
already been learned in preventing
the advance of some of these con
ditions. Nevertheless, thev take an
enormous toll of life and health.
OUTLOOK IMPROVED
Most people with heart disease
I need not necessarily look forward
to a life or Invalidism. The outlook
Is much better than waa formerly
thought, and the care of many types
of diseases Involving the blood ves
sels and heart has greatly Improved,
already.
Nevertheless, research la necessary
If we art to expect further progress.
More people should be made swart
of how much can be done for them,
especially If their difficulty Is found
early. In all of this work, the Amerl
can Heart association and other In.
terested organizations are making
a real contribution.

The curtain's up the show is on

It's catching bouquets on the bril

now so utterly smooth you hardly
know the engine's running and
now provided in separate horse
power ratings for the sprightly
Special, the quick-stepping Super
and two for the rich and regal
RO ADM ASTER.
It's getting applause on Safety-Ride
rims, pillow-soft tires, coil spring
ing all around, on bodies newly
sheltered against travel .noise on
no less than 30 new features.
But most of all it's winning curtain
calls on two major advances no
other car offers.
One is the sensational new Dynaflow
Drive, through which something
close to magic is made yours.
Here there is no gear shifting, even
by automatic devices under the
floor boards. Mere for the first time
i? power plant does what gears
used to do giving you smooth fast
starts, silken acceleration, effortless
cruising at the touch of your toe on
the gas treadle.
No clutch pedal no sliding gears
no halt, hesitation, jerk or click.
Just silken ease and matchless sim
plicity. The other star feature is the Vibra
Shielded ride. It's the first ride in
which the driver and passengers
are fully shielded against vibration
build-up against the piling up of
little vibrations into big ones that
leave you tired and tense.
Engine sensation becomes almost
imperceptible road noise cut to
the minimum. Every model in the
line gets a new measure of smooth
ness, quiet and ease that make Buick
more than ever the car wanted for
its all-round satisfaction.
Buick dealers everywhere are
showing this fashion plate of '48.
See it. Look into it. And get your
