Corn Values In Collapse
CHICAGO. Feb. 6 WV-Orln continued to crh on the board of
trade today despite short-covering end new buying whtclr t times
produced quick, Ume rallies.
The collapse ol values was most apparent In corn. Prices were off
the e-cent limit most ot the session, marking the third consecutive
day of limit breaks In tills grain. At times wheat was down lu 10-cent
limit. Oats showed some resistance to the waves of selling.
The cash corn market was completely disrupted at times. With
futures offered at limit declines, potential buyers of the cash grain
could not hedge such purchases.
All wheat ended 10 cents lower, the dally limit. May All
corn ended 8 cents lower, the dally limit. Mny 12.23s. All soybeans
ended 1 cents lower, the dally limit. March W62. Oats did not break
the limit, dosing 6M lower to 3' higher, May ll.Ol-'j.
At the close today wheat contracts were down ' to 50H cents
from seasonal peaks, corn down 26 to 47 cents, oats down H'j to
3i cents, and soybeans down 7S to 90'j cents. It Is the steepest de
cline since before the war.

Filberts Proposed
For School Lunches
NEWBERG, Feb. 6 (rP The com
modity credit corporation has been
asked to buy 800.000 pounds of fil
berts and 3,000,000 pounds of wal
nuts for school lunches.
John Trunk, manager of the
Northwest Nut Growers, said the
plan would use up surplus third
grade walnuts.

Millie Jane Nichols, a resident of
Klamath county for 30 years prior to
her recent residence in Portland, Ore.,
passed away tn Portland on Thursday.
February 5. 1943. She was a Dative of
Anderson. Calif., and was aged 78 yean
at the time of her death. She U sur--ived
by her husband. B. F. "Frank"
Nichols of Portland, Ore.; two daiifhters.
Ruby Brown of Bonanza. Ore., and
Artie Freese of Portland. Ore.; a son.
Lester F. Nichols of Portland. Ore.: a
sister and two brothers in California.
