driver of an automobile that plunged
Into a deep pool of the Umpqua
river eaat of here had been Identified
today aa Archibald Thurber, 68,
Bandon.
Thurber waa the second victim of
three mlahapa since Saturday In
which ears drove off highway 38 and
submerged In the river.
Const guardsmen and police re
covered Thurber's body last night,
after grappling for the car since
Tuesday night when the car lights
were aeen swinging abruptly from
the road. Identity of the victim
waa not determined until the car
waa raised from a 60 loot deep
pool.
In the earlier mishaps, K. J. Mc
Outre, Recdsport, drowned Satur
day. Five persona escaped Sunday
from a car which went into In
rive; half a mile from the point
where Thurber's oar left the road.
