of trading pushed wheat and oats well above yestrdny'i levels after
hanging around steady most of the session of the board of trade today.
Com followed to within reach of Die previous quotations.
Karller corn had dropped off as much as 3 cents a bushel on the
strength of President Truman's request to congress In a special message
that the government's power be extended until October 31 to restrict
grains used by distillers.
Traders aald much of the recovery In the yellow cereal resulted
from a statement by Rep. Wolcott (R-Mlch.) to the effect his banking
and currency committee did not contemplate further action lmmedt
' ately - after yesterday's refusal to grant extended grain-use powers
through February.
Wheat closed 'i to 3 cents higher, May 3 91-2.92, ; corn was
lower, May f3.S8-2.58H, and oata were S higher to ' lower, May

favorites pacing one of the best ad
vances of the year thus far.
Dealings slowed alter a lively fore
noon and extreme gains were re
duced In many cases but plus signs
of 1 to 3 points or so persisted near
the close. There was a smattering of
declines. Transfers were around 1.
