A B-29 army plane thnt bounced
back into the air from a crash land
ing nt Spokane at 2:15 Sunday
morning landed safely two hours
and 45 minutes later at Great Fulls
army air base, base officials an
nounced today.
Describing the miraculous escape
o' the plane's pilot. K. C. Ashcr
feldt. and his six crewmen, all of
the Spokane air base. Col. John S.
Chennault, base commander here,
told this story today.

Sunday morning. It was approach
ing for a ground control landliig at
3:15 under a hcav fog that had re
duced visibility to sero.
"We thought we were okay until
suddenly there was a terrific crash. 1
Chennault said the pilot told hint.
"Immediately after the crash, the
ship hit the ground and then
bounced back into the air."
The pilot pulied open the throttle
and managed to gulp altitude. He
nosed the plane out of the fog and
headed for the base here, where
they landed sately
It was learned here after the
plane landed that it had crashed
into a power line and sheared off
three poles before striking
ground.

Constitution OK'd

tion for the Italian republic was
approved Monday by a 453-62 vote
In the constituent assembly, which
spent 17 months drawing up the
charter.
Monarchists and nationalists
voted against the document. It
formally ends the reign of the
house of Savoy.
Enrico de Nicola, who has been
provisional president, was acclaim
ed as the first republican president.
A Christian democrat deputy.
Giogio la Pira, presented an 11th
hour proposal that the preamble
read:
"In the name of God. the Italian
people gives itself the following constitution."

Search Organized
The Klamath Air Search and
Rescue Unit has been standing by
since word was received here Sun
day that a Stinson monoplane with
four aboard was missing. The plane
which left EUensberg, Wash, was
expected to follow a route over
Yakima. The Dalles. Madras. Red
mond. Chemult and put down at
Klamath Falls.
Nothing has been heard from the
plane since it started and searches
organized from that end of the
flight have reported no further
clues as to the distance achieved
before the plane disappeared.
Dave Zumwalt. flight commander
for KASRU. is briefing about six
pilots to leave from the Klamath
airport this morning and search the
territory between here and Red
mond, where the search Is taken up
by pilots in that region.

end. He was flying his Beechcraft.

his work of tracing stolen cattle.
Craig Povey, Cassna distributor,
flew In Monday with a new four
place Cessna 195. with a crusing
speed of 180 mnh.

tion operator, put his Ercoupe down
at the Klamath airport, on Monday.
Robert Wood took off from Klam
ath Falls Monda. In his Ercoupe lor
Kingman. Ariz., where he will spend
the holidays.
E. Meed of Canby. Calif., flew Ills
private plane In here ever the week
end and landed for a short stop.
A student on his cross-country
flight from Sand Point, Ida., landed
here this week.
Dallas Masterson, private pilot
from Orland, Calif, passed through
Klamath Falls recently and stopped
for a short chat.

I'nited Gets Receivers
Two hundred new omni-direc-tional
radio range receivers have
been purchased by United Air Lines
to be installed in the entire fleet
of 144 planes. They are to enable
pilots to use omnl-directlonal ranges
which broadcast multiple courses
corresponding to the spokes of a
wheel, giving them a choice of
courses in approaching a station.

in real estate and personal property

as heirs.
