Face Ration
WASHINOTON, Dec. 15 The
cabinet food committee Saturday
recommended that the whiskey dis
tilling Industry ration Itself to 2.500.
000 bushels ot train a month and
foiCKO the use of wheat when the
distillery holiday ends December 5.
In a letter to distillers. Secretary
of Agriculture Anderson, chairman
of the cabinet body, proposed that
the new plan be carried out "dur
ing the next six months and so long
thereafter as the need for grain
conservation continues.
The proposed grain consumption
compares with a usage of 8,000.000
bushels In Octobel, immediately
prior to the nationwide shutdown
ana an average of 5.000.000 bushels
monthly In the 1J months which
ended last June 30
The whiskey making holiday is a
60-day period agreed to in con
nection with the campaign to con
serve grain to make more available
for food abroad.
Anderson proposed a grain allo
cation for each plant, which he
said was based on the capacity and
past consumption record of every
distiller.

mated $3,000,000.

duction project of the Fremont high
way in Lake county.
Bids will be opened in Portland
December 39 and 30.
