in the state "Good Citizen Contest", sponsored by the Daugh
ters o( the American Revolution. One of the girls is, endorsed

in state competition will be given a trip to Washington, D. C.

New Club Members
Klamath Falls branch of the American Association of University
Women honored its new members In gala style at a dinner parly at
the Pelican cafe Thursday evening. An air of informality and friendli
ness was Introduced by a game of "Friendship Bingo." conducted by
Orpha Hudson and Irma Wauchope.
The tables were charming, centered with Christmas candles, minia
ture Christmas trees, sparkling garlands and cleverly made Utile figures,
under the direction of Mrs. Allsa Kuykendall. Mrs. Hugh Tnllry was In
charge of the gift exchange, and place cards for the new membera
were made by Mrs. Robert Smith.
Mra. H. R. Todd, general chair- i
man, was mistress of ceremonies,
and first Introduced the new mem
bers, who were presented with
Christmas corsages, made by Mrs.
Edward Hickman. Mrs. C. A. Hend
erson, In charge of music for the
evening, introduced the Barber Shop
chorus, directed by John Houston,
who entertained the group with
nostalgic harmonies and concluded
with a hilarious Interpretation of
"Easter Parade."
Mrs. C. B. Larkln, in the role of
Eugene Field's small boy, gave a
splendid reading of "Jest Before
Christmas." Santa Claus arrived
amid a clash of sleighbella and con
ducted the gift exchange. He was
assisted In the distribution of gifts
bv Mrs. John Merryman, Mrs. Aaron
Hoffman, Mrs. Harold Teale and
Irma Wauchope. The party ended I
with group singing, accompanied by
Mrs. Don J. Zumalt.

Pre-Holiday Party
Given By Group
One of the gayest of the pre-Christmas parties was that given by
the Toastmistress club in the banquet room of the Winema hotel last
Wednesday. It was the first Christmas party held by the club, but the
affair was such a success it will be an annual event. A number of
games were played during the evening, and husbands of the members
were winners in all of the races held. Those serving on the party com
mittee were Ann Price, chairman,
Mrs. R. F. McLaren, and Mrs. Ernest i
Koschnlck.
Dinner was served buffet style.
Dtcorating Ihe table were ever
greens, with groups of candle figures
and bronzed pine cones. The ban
quet room was bright with Christ
mas decorations, including a minia
ture evergreen tree.
Instead of exchanging presents
the members donated money to a
fund to purchase toys. These toys
were on display at the party, and
were then given to the Salvation
Army for distribution to needy chil
dren. Mrs. McLaren was toastmistress of
the evening. Mrs. Willard R. Duncan
began the speaking program with a
talk about Paul Bunyan visiting the
Klamath basin while the chamber
ol commerce was entertaining the
Christmas SDirit. Her talk was en
titled "An Experiment in Confu
sion." Following this talk. Mrs.
Vivian Owens told the story. "The
Three Kings." Mrs. Wanda Elliott
related a Christmas story entitled.
"Yes, There Is a Santa," followed by
Vrs. Vrssa Poll, who told the story
"The White Christmas Rose."

Visitors
Numerous informal parties and
luncheons have marked the visit of
Mrs. James T. Tanner and her small
son, Jamie, In Klamath Falls.
The two have been the house
guests of Mrs, Tanner's sister, Mrs.
R. H. Reeves, of Lakeshore drive.
Formerly of Portland, they will
leave next week for Dearborn,
Mich., to make their home.
Election Plans
The Klamath Falls Council of
Church Women will meet at 1
o'clock Monday afternoon, . Decem
ber 15 at St. Paul's Episcopal church
parish hall for the annual election
and Installation of officers. Hazel
Morrison, president, will be In
charge of the ceremonies. The reg
ular business meeting will Include
a special offering for the American
mission to lepers. The mission work
for lepers is one of several projects
aided by the National Council of
Church Women.
Mrs. Frank W. Fortna, local chair
man of the clothing drive for dis
tressed areas abroad, reports that
on World Community Day, 843
pounds of clothing and shoes were
shipped from Klamath Falls through
the efforts of the local church coun
cil women. This shipment included
94 shoes, 31 bundles of clothing, 9
duffle bags of clothing and blankets
as well as Incidental necessities for
children and adults. Mrs. Fortna
requests that donations of clothing
and shoes be brought on Monday
to the Christian church basement
and it is expected that a fairly
Urge shipment may be made this
day.

Hayride
A large fire built outdoors by a
group of Camp Fire Girls was the
center of attraction at a party held
at the Webber ranch near Bonan
za, Saturday, December 6,
Mrs. Lawrence French and her
Camp Fire Girls were guests ot
Lois Nail's group of Bonanza, for a
hayrldo and wiener roast. Mr.
Wcathcrby, a Camp Fire dad, drove
the girls to the ranch where they
danced and sang around the fire
until the wood fell low enough tor
the roasting of marshmnllows and
wieners.
