Klamath's Community Chest fund
passed the $07,000 mark todny aflei

Money which continues to drift in
will go to a reserve as a start for
next year's campaign.
, The campaign was definitely over
today, and headquarters offices will
close In a few days alter the odds
and ends details have been handled
by Mrs. Ruth Nelson, who served
as secretary and auditor.
The Wocus social was a final ef
fort 111 the county community drive
which proved an outstandingly suc
cessful phase of the campaign.
Wocus had been given no quota n
th. campaign, but the affair there
netted a substantial sum.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hurd made
the plans for the Wocus event, which
was held at the H and H market.
Col. Fred Howard auctioned the
boxes. U. S. Bslenune acted as
master of ceremonies.
A feature was a "belle ol the nine
ties" contest isee accompanying pic
ture.) Mrs. Jim Helms of Wocus won
the 'contest. Dorris and Macdoel.
while out of Klamath county, con
tributed substantially to the success
of the box social, sending a candi
date for the queen contest. Winning
boxes were entered by Mrs. Helen
Hoffman, Mrs. Fred Howard and
Mrs. Don Magee. Highest price paio
for a box was by Woody Wilson jl
Dorris, who paid $22.50 for the entry
of Mrs. Flora Lee Mericle, the Dorris
queen candidate.

Wagner, a two-time loser in Ne
! vada. was paroled from prison in
Carson City, November 17. a police
bulletin revealed. He was sen
tenced to life imprisonment for sec
ond degree murder. He had Just
drifted into town to team up with
Hurd, also a parolee frc . a l-to-15
year burglary sentence in Nevada.
Hurd has been in Klamath Falls
for several months and is on parole
from the local circuit court for bur
glary. He was convicted last year
for burglarizing Ole's tavern. At
that time Hurd was given an insan
ity hearing and declared sane. Only
a week ago Hurd was in the city
jail for disorderly conduct, involv
ing a fight at Schuss' tavern.
