Being thankful on Thanksgiving
Day as a matter of casual good feel
ing for your well-being Is one thing
but being thankful for the safe de
lherance of your very life Is some
thing! On Friday following Thanksgiving
Day the John A. Thompson family
had A horrible experience which
they will never forget and for the
safe ending of same they will al
ways be thankful.
At the same treacherous spot
about three miles out of Beany.
Ore., where a few years ago Earl
Cluff of Lakeview pulled a car out
of the Sprngue river In which four
pt rsons were drowned, he on Friday
of last week pulled the Tlsompson
car out where it was completely
siiomerged except for a portion of
the top and is practically a total
loss.
The accident occurred while the
Thompsons were on their way to
Klamath Falls at about 9 o'clock
Friday morning. The exact cause of
the car taking a sudden lunge to the
nsht while traveling about 35 miles
an hour in the middle of the high
v.av is st ill a mystery.
It is presumed by Thompson that
the brakes locked as he had had
similar trouble before with the
brakes. This locking of the brakes
apparently caused the car to veer
to the right forced by the drag and
slope of the highway. Thompson
cr.imped his wheels to the left but
the tail end of his car swung to the
edge of the steep, rocky embank
ment, paused at a precarious bal
ance and tumbled over three or
four times, coming to rest finally
wheels down facing the highway,
about a car's length out into the
deep river. Thompson scrambled to
the top of the car when the door,
which he tried again and again to
open, finally yielded and reached
down Into " the murkv water to
assist his familv. His wife meanwhile
was hysterically searching for her
eight-vear-old daughter as the car
gushed full of muddv. gurgling
water. The girl had evidently been
knocked out and was pinned be
neath the cushion on the floor bv
ths steering wheel. Her limp bodv
was finally discovered and nearly
lost in the stream as Mrs. Thomp
son tried to lift her out around the
top of the car. Mrs. Thompson
worked with her daughter on the
too of the car in the shivering cold
while Thomoson finally flagged
down a car for help. The girl was
carried to shore through nerk-deeo
water while her mother followed
behind.
After considerable effort the girl
revived and the unfortunate familv
was rushed to the Beatty store
where a change of clothing was
made and warmth and nourishment
provided. It is believed by the fami
ly that the fact the girl was knocked
out by a bump on her head was all
that saved her life ns there was no
water In her lungs.
Mrs. Thompson's parents. Mr. and
Mis. Earnest Robnett of New Pine
Creek, were notified and they went
to Bealty and brought the Thomp
sons home. Aside from bruises,
shock and exposure the family sus
tained no serious Injury. The car
Is a total loss according to report,

Eight up in the
Four-Front
SCATTERED across this nation
are some ol the cagiesl auto
mobile buyers ihe world ever saw.
They cuf their eyeteeth on a steer
ing wheel, so lo speak-they know
car values from A to izzard - and
you have to be plenty good to step
ahead of your price class in the
volume of your sales to them.
Thai's why it's startling -sometimes
even to us - to see the
double -barreled story ol public
preference that's written in the
sales records and registration
figures:
ITEM: Only three cars outsell
Ktiick-and all of Ihese are in
the so-called "low-price field."
ITEM: In some localities - and
guile often in polls that ask
"Which car will you buy next?"
-Huick ranks not fourth, hut
third, actually ahead of one of
the lowest-priced three.
Naturally, the smart buyer will
ask "I low come?"
Well, the most standout style of
the season, the style that's the
clearest forecast of wonderful
things lo be, undoubtedly has
much to do with it.
15ul that isn't all. The dollar is still
a prctly importanl measuring stick.
So we don't think Buick could be
where il is il il didn't offer a bigger
dollar's worth - bigger in size and
substance, in lift and life, in soft
ride and easy handling, bigger in
the all-round happiness you'll get
oul of your buy..
Which suggcsls, of course:
Why go aguinsl the solid judg

Why not see your Buick

place the order that will
put you where you belong,
