NEW YORK. Aug. 8 WV There Is
no shortage of dream worlds In
America.
Back down the road a ways I
wrote a piece about the private
dream world I live In when I am be
ing bored by people or ought to be
at my work.
Well, Judging from the mall I
have been getting, there must be
more dream worlds In this country
Uian there Is bubble gum. For all
our efficiency and hustle-bustle, we
Americans still delight In shedding
the shackles of our routine to romp
and gainer wool In mentul pastures
where Die moon flowers never die.
Many people have written In to
tell m? what fun they get out of
daydreaming. I think they are much
more healthy minded than some
globe-browed people who say day
dreaming Is a pernicious waste of
lime. Reveries often lead to struc
tures more substantial than airy
casilrs-lii-Bpaln. They are also es
cape valves for bottled up mean
ness and frustration. The man who
dnydreanu rarely goes mad and
biles strangers In a crowded subway.
Tne tense man of unresting ac
tion clutters his office walls with
slogans like "Think I" and "Do It
now I" But when he goes to bed he
is likely to ride off on a wild night
mare who has the bit In her tth
and gallops htm down perilous lanes
of fear and torment. The daydream
er. on the other hand, has placated
nis subconscious mind by twilight
and lies down to a restful, unbroken
sleep.
