Charles Cecil Chambers, age 17,

Webb, Vancouver, Wash., and Ansel
Willis Settler, son of Mrs. Anna H.
Dale of 3604 Bhasta way, have en
listed In the regular navy for a
three-year cruise.
Prior to enlisting Settler was an
active member of the Lake o' the
Wood Boy club, where he served
aa junior councilor. He received
the Best Camper award for his
outstanding performance with Uie
club In the past two years.
Both boys were sworn In at Port
land on July 30 and transferred
to the training station In Ban Diego,
to complete the 13 weeks training
course that all men must complete
when first enlisting In the navy.
Here the boys will undergo In
tensive mllltury training, take rou
tine examinations In order that the
navy will be able to find just what
the Individual I best suited for. In
most case a young man hasn't
given his future trade much
thought, therefore one sure way to
choose your future course of life.
Is to let the navy decide this factor

Increase In its allotment of federal
funds under the Clarke-McNary act
will come to the Oregon state for
estry department this fiscal year
(July 1, 1047, to June 30, 1948) be

Association of State Foresters at It

The allotment thla year will
amount, to $803,600, or approximately
1100,000 more than for the lust fiscal

eastern sky line later eacn succeed
ing night, we shall soon have an
opportunity to study the stars In a
dark early evening sky. Let us spe
cialize on a conspicuous group In
the Northeast which iy 9 a. m., ap
pears to be about half way up from
the horizon to the zenith.
This group, In the form of an
awkward letter W, la composed of
stars brighter than any other In
the Immediate vicinity. There are
five stars In the principal outline,
with the two farthest to the left a
little dimmer than the others, It
will be noticed also that the left
hand "V" of the W 1 smaller than
the other. Perhaps an artificial let
ter would meet more exacting de
mand for gracefulness, but seldom
do we find nuture bending so low
as exactly to Imitate artificial
forms.
