To Open Saturday
HENLilY. Aug.. 1 The opening of
the new Henley garage and Chev
ron service station, across Irom the
Henley school. Is slated for August
3 at 4 p. m. Coffee and doughnuts
will be served to visitors at the
opening.
Owners of the new plant, which
was originally the Texaco service
station, are George Williams of
Klamath Falls and Russel Allen of
Malin. Williams was with the As
sociated company in Tulelake for
eight years. He has been with a
Klamath Falls station for the past
year. Allen has been employed
with Con Johnson of Malm. .
The shop will be equipped to re
pair trucks, cars, tractors and radios.
They will also do acetylene and arc
welding.
The navy has Just opened 29 i

Slight Drop
CHICAOO. Aug. 1 (VI Corn con
tracts established new seasonal
highs on the board of trade today
on a tlve-dny weather outlook Indi
cating higher temperatures with
little moisture.
Buying of corn was concentrated
In now crop months. In tho spot
market, number 0110 yellow corn
sold for $3.38, a new high for the
year.
Other grains did not show much
change. Oats, however, had a firm
undertone In view of the disappoint
ing crop.
Wheat closed unchanged to 4
cent lower, September $3.31'-,
corn was cents lower to 1 cents
higher. September $3.13-3.13'.
and oats were cents to 1 cent
higher. September 94-S cents.
Allen Estate Set
At $575 .
Fred Lester Allen, who was killed
in an auto accident July 25. left an
estate amounting to $575, probate
filings revenl. Ho did not leuvo a
will but heirs are listed as two
sisters and two brothers, none of
whom live in Oregon.
Included In the estate Is a set
tlement offer of $500 made by Wil
liam Parr, who was driving tho
auto which struck Allen on high
way 97. Nina Hall, administratrix
of the estate, has petitioned the
circuit court for an order accepting
the settlement otter, saying that
liability for the accident on Parr's
part' was doubtful.
Bank Clearings
Hit New Record
PORTLAND. Aug. 1 July
bank clearings mounted to a re
cord $430,388,054 here, the Portland
Clearing House association report
ed today.
It was about three million dol
lars higher than the previous re
cord set In January. The total for
the year Is about five million dol
lars more than In tho correspond
ing period of 1946.
Building permits sagged to $3.
238.160. slightly below the June
total and fur below July of Inst
year.
