New Milk
Group Named
PORTLAND. July 31 WV-A new
committee of Jersey cattle dairymen
was listed today to direct efforts of
the milk producers' group seeking
revision of the state milk price
schedul-.
State Agriculture Director E, L.
Peterson defended the existing pay
ment plan In a meeting here yester
day with members of the Milk Pro
ducers association In which the
owners of high butterfat producing
herds complained of discrimination.
Peterson said "the new plan re
imburses owners of all breeds alike
for butterfat and milk solids they
supply to the market. If this Is dis
crimination, I fall to see It."
The state director Invited the
Jersey breeders to compile statis
tical proof of their complaint, add
ing that he would be glad to discuss
the Issue with "reasonable. Intelli
gent men."
"I ha.e heard rumors political
pressure may be brought to bear on
ms. Anyone who thinks that will
work had better think again," he
asserted.
Peterson recommended a commit
tee representing producers, rilstrlbu
tors and consumers, but the asso
ciation later named an all-producer
committee. Paul Reeder, Sauvlcs
Island, was named ohalrman.
